best protein skimmer on market?

Hi:
I have an Aqua C remora protein skimmer, had it off for a couple of days and not that it is on again--I can't stand the noise and/or the micro bubbles--what is the best skimmer on the market for a 29 gal reef--I am tired of playing with this remora
 
I heard its the Aqua C Remora and you have it.....cant help don't have one but you might need to fine tune it.

the bubbles will go way, I have the remora, also the CSS 125. The 125 is way better than the remora and cheaper. But the pump and bubble trap are huge. So if i were you i would stick with the Remora if you dont have a sump, but if you have a sump or plan on getting one i would get a CSS 125

As for the noise, once you get use to it, it is pretty quite.

Moonpod, is right. If you have a sump, I'd go with the Deltec MC500. If not, the MCE600 can be used as a hang on. Yes, they're expensive, but if you're serious about the hobby; you'll be much better off in the long run. Believe me, I've been down this road.
 
Paper towel (yes it gets wet) or sponge over the injector nozzle will quiet it some. A sponge in the return section will slow the bubbles for a while until the inside gets slimy enough. Not an instantly good skimmer, but good after it's broken in a couple weeks.

The noise never goes away, though, muffle it as best you can on top of the injector.

Does that mean you would generally not clean the inside of the skimmer? Is the slime benefitial for bubble production? I was worried it might fall back into the water flow.
 
I also agree with the Deltec being at the top, but I guess that the term "best skimmer" is also relative to the price range that you are looking to spend.

It might be more helpful to indicate the max amount that you are looking to spend, that way people can target in more specifically for you.
 
Remoras are a good skimmer. I do not know why people have been beating them up of late. We all know there are Cadillacs and Pontiacs. The Deltec is great, but not in everyones price range. I think that we have been too critical of the decent skimmers since these Needle Wheels and becketts have become so popular.

The Remora may be a little loud, but they do make sound dampeners for the end of the air intake.

The bubbles should go away after breakin is complete.

If you get a sump I would look for a better skimmer that operates in or next to your sump.
 
I have the remora pro.Its a good skimmer but its not the best.I also am usnig a pacific coast wich is the same as the coralife.I find the pc works better but the skimmate is the same colour.I thought about getting the deltec 600 but I am not sure if I am going to get a better skim out of it that to me will say yes its worth the extra money.
 
I found my Remora quited down a lot after a few weeks - bubbles went away too. IMO, you might just want to give it a little time.

Do also realize - I don't think I've heard a truly silent skimmer, IMO.
