Best size Nano?

I've had a 9 gal tank for about 6 months now. I initially used it as a Qt for my 125 Dt. After everything was established, I started to use the Qt as a nano. I had success for about 8 months and recently lost most of the 5 fish I had in there. I'm guessing something was off with the water chemistry. I have not run tests lately.

What would be the best size nano so that any little discrepancy in water quality won't be catastrophic?

I would say a 29g, I have a 14g biocube and is stable for the most part but it is open top with a metal halide, I had it with the top closed and had stability problems. It also depends on what you stock with, five fish (no matter what size) IMO is way too much for a 9g and asking for trouble, if your water checks out fine then I would say the fish were stressed for being crammed. If you ever run into problems with water issues on something that small you could do a complete water change using the water from your 125g assuming your water chemistry is good with virtually no ill effects. Hope this helps.

That makes sense about using water from my DT. I was actually thinking about that the other day. I definitely want something a little more stable. That 29 might be the way to go.
