Best skimmer for $300??

Awesome so sro 2000 it is! You guys saved me a lot of headaches. I just hope it fits in my sump compartment as it 15 in diagonal

What are maximum dimensions you have to fit it in? Better to check now....

They also have a couple "sump saver" models, not sure the tank ranges tehy support though. They have the pump in the body, just slightly less performance.

I got a used turboflotor t1000 off ebay for $62 shipped and upgraded it with an ocean runner 3700 pump, a mesh mod and an air pump. I could not be happier with the results for well under $200. This thing pulls a full cup of dark tea skimmate out of a 20 long with four small/medium fish, tons of SPS and vodka dosing. I have it raised all the way out of the sump and I can still pull dark and nasty crud by setting it a little more dry.

I trust this skimmer so much that it is going on my new 120 SPS reef which everything will be going into along with a bunch more SPS and probably six more fish. My only complaint is a semi-small collection cup so I will be adding a separate skimmate container.

It's a 40 gal sump but it's divided into 3 compartments measuring 12X12. On a diagonal it measures almost 15in. I was hoping it would fit if I put the skimmer in with the pump on a diagonal. The extreme xs200 is 15x9.4x23. What do you think?

while the SWC 160 is a killer skimmer for the money it is abit small for a tank your size. if the skimmer says it is good up to 160g tank i wouldnt put it on any more then a 90g tank.

after owning the SWC for awhile i can honestly say it is a very good skimmer. before this though i always liked ASM skimmers and swore by them.

I went from an ASM to my SRO and it is night and day. If you liked ASM, you would be blown away by the SRO.

You probably can fit it diagonal, but you may want to check out the SRO 2000sss. Space saver, but it costs more.

The SWC 160 cone is a very good skimmer. It will work well for a 125 and it is dead silent too. Had one on my 75 gallon and loved it. The pumps do have restart issues. I found out that giving it a vinegar bath every month or so would restart the pump without any issues.

I have my SRO 2000 out of the sump since I went to an ATB. I just tried placing the sump on a 12"12" tile, and it will not fit....barely. The volute needs another 1/2" or so, even then that is super tight.

3 compartments 12x12....is it a 40 high?

In those dimensions a Sea Side Aquatics CS8 will fit. It retails for $339. It's manufactured by the same company that makes Bubble Magus, but they use the new Sicce pumps instead, I've heard good things about them.
