Best skimmer for the $$$

Sorry to double post. My skimmer part of my sump measures 8''x12''x6 1/2''. Which one that I listed will work better in shallower water. I have heard that with shallower water, pumps have to run harder to pump water, is this correct? I can always adjust the baffle height for my skimmer compartment, as I am still gathering parts and supplies.

Thanks

I have personally owned the ER RS180 and DAS EX1. 2 diffrent systems but there is no way i would ever buy a ER RS over a DAS. I love the DAS it is totally plug and play and also is external or you can also use in your sump.

Height of your water does not matter with the DAS,The DAS is much quieter and is also rated for more gallons than the RS 100 and the prices are identical.

I think the aquabee pulls more LPH than the genx sp2 that the ER RS100 runs?

Its your choice but i am very confident you will be much happier with the DAS EX1

Ok I will look into a DAS ex1. I was reading through the DAS skimmer thread and everyone seems to be very happy with them. Thank you for the input.

Seems that I cant run the DASex1 in my sump, footprint is too big. I dont want to run it externally, lack of space in my stand. I need an in sump. Looks like I am back to the ER RS100.

Thanks USC. Not much info there like what type of feed pump you need, etc. Looks very nice for the price though.

Do you think you can run a return line to the skimmer to alleviate having to use a feed pump?

Yeah you can do that. Check out the DAS club thread for some different setups. If you have any problems i'm sure someone can help you here.

I do used a mj1200 for a feed pump just to keep things simple.

and the height of the water in the sump doesn't effect the skimmer at all, right?
Not really unless you have a water level that is over the skimmer's output but even then it is not a big deal. I also run my DAS ex-2 in my sump.

I came home tonight and measured from sump floor to top of the tank and I'm at 27.5 at the most. I'm not going ot have room for the EX-2.

After finally making my decisions I'm back at square one.

did i make a huge mistake?
