Best Source for Broodstock

I'm new to clownfish breeding and in the process of planning my setup. I am curious as to how most of you obtain your broodstock. Do you pair juveniles and let them grow or buy adult pairs?

I have a couple of pairs that will be some time before they are mature enough to spawn and am thinking about buying an adult pair. I've heard good things about Inland Aquatics for breeding resources including broodstock. Any opinions or suggestions? TIA.

I'll will go with pairing myself , it is more economic but IA has spawning pairs available just that you will have to pay what the fish are worth.

Honestly, get WC adult pairs, QT them, condition them and let nature take it's course.

If you are just doing this a strictly hobby, getting CB pairs is fine as you will likely never try to pair offspring. But if you are thinking long term and are more serious about it, go with WC, then you know that you have genetically deverse stock to start with and run less risk of over inbreeding from CB stock that might be F3+.

Direct from the wholesaler if at all possible. I have had great luck with Quality Marine. If you can not buy direct, ask around, there are cherry pickers lurking on the boards here. Also your LFS might let you tag along on an order, especially if they have minimums to meet.

But fair warning, you are going to lose some fish to disease/parasites and stress, but in the long run you will have better fish at a cheaper cost. Study up on QT and disease/parasite treatment.

Thanks. My preferred LFS gets stuff from Quality Marine so that should make it easy. I really appreciate the input. I want to do this right from the beginning to prevent as many issues as possible.

Nope no books (that I know of anyway), but lots of posts in the clownfish forum (in the FAQ too) and in the disease treatment forum.
