Best way to catch a fish?

I recently noticed that my new blue tang has somehow caught ich. I did not have a quarantine tank at the time, so I had a nanocube overnighted so that I could isolate him as soon as possible.

Now that I have the nanocube, and its all ready for him, I can't seem to catch him in my normal tank! As soon as the net hits the water, he's gone behind the rocks in a flash.

Its driving me absolutely bonkers.

Anyone have any tips for catching fish?

i used the jar method to catch a bunch of fish when i needed to rearrange my tanks. i took a snapple-like glass jar with a little wider opening and put it horizontally either on the rockwork or the sandbed depending on where the fish i wanted to catch hung out. sprayed some mysis shrimp in the jar.

didn't feed the fish for a couple days. within three days pretty much all the fish were trained to eat out of there. seemed that for a majority of the fish (with the exception of my pink-spotted shrimp goby), if they were inside eating and i walked over and put my hand in to upright the jar and take it out, the fish would lose sense of which way was out and i easily was able to take out fish.

for the goby, i had to tie a fishing line to the neck of the jar, and pull up that way for quicker 'uprighting' of jar.

worked for me with clowns, 6-line wrasse, blue tang, goby, damsels.. seemed much less stressful than the net method, and less slime/skin loss from the net too. however, my blue tang is still a juvenile, an adult may require a bigger opening jar/tube, maybe like a old skimmer/canister filter?

i thought it wouldn't work until i tried.. easiest way for me without messing up my tank..

donfishy, saw the idea from another thread on rc, no use in reinventing the wheel.. though the fishing line was my improv when i was having a tough time with the goby (gobies have good sense of space!)

Yellow panther martins for trout and purple worms for bass...

Try placing a net in the tank for a while when you feed to let it get used to it. THen one day after its comfortable with the net in the tank try to scoop'em up!

It worked for me catching my shrimp prior to a interceptor dose.

Maybe a hook and line might work....Hmmmm how much do you like this tang?
