best way to catch a fish?

I'm trying to get a fish out of my tank. Whats the best and easiest way to get him out without taking out all of my live rock?

TRAP of your choosing. I use a smaller fish tank (or other vessel)with food in it. Let it sit in there and the fish get used to it. I have even added a PVC pipe to give the fish the sense that he is hiding. when he goes in for food I use the net to scare him into staying and lift the small tank out. Obviously this can be modified for any size tank but the larger the vessel you can stick in there as the trap the easier it will be. ex. On my 250 I use a 20 gal tank.

Good luck

cut the spout off and make the hole about 2"-2 1/2" big

then cut the cone right at the base

now turn the top around and push it in place. put food in it and place it on the sand bed.

what happens is the fish can go in but then gets confused on how to get out. it works for me every time. i caught my coral beauty in 30 min this weekend.

Barbless fly hook with salmon eggs?

Ok, so Jesses' method is more humane... guess it depends on if you're eating them or not. :D

I caught our blue hippo tang with a snell hook. We pinched the barb flat and I put a piece of krill on the hook. It worked the first try within 5 minutes and didn't hurt the fish at all. We found the hooks at Cabellos and they were very cheap....couple bucks for 5 of them and they come with about a foot of fishing line already attached to them. I did this with Skips advice and it worked like a charm.
Oh, and we tried the whole bottle method and trap method first but all we caught with them were hermit crabs and snails! Just my .02 worth.

i found if you drill a hole in the bottle and then when they go in it use that to pull it up its better. when I was trying to get my blueface out he was smart enough to know how to get out. If you use the fishing line too it works faster

i spent 2 weeks chasing a damn 4 stripe damsel out, he was chewing the hell out of my flame angel. they are about the same size, and the flame seams like a very doscile fish. i almost resorted to:

but instead i rationally removed all the live rock, and still chased him around for about 15 minutes. finally got the little ______ cornered by moving the net so fast i actually bent the handle and had it full of substrate..... he went immediatly into my nano reef, if he eats any coral or my clam he is done.

surprisingly with no acclimation he made it through the night.... anyone want a nice 4 stripe damsel? :D
