Best way to clean mp40's?

I have 2 Vortechs that havent been cleaned for 4 years and they are in dire need of some cleaning. The pink algae growth isnt too bad on them but there are some feather dusters and other calcerous creatures on them. What would you guys recommend as the quickest method of cleaning these up so they're not out of my tank for too long?

Dunk in vinegar and warm water for a bit, the longer the better, then maybe a brush scrub and rinse

Vinegar.

My mp10's I let run in an old coffee can for a few minutes. Cleans the corraline right off easy. Then let them run for a few minutes in RO/DI. After cleaning, I take the wet side apart and give it a quick scrub with a toothbrush.

Shouldn't take no more then an hour, depending on how gunked up they are.

I Bought a used hydor korralia to use as a salt mixer, the corraline was so thick the fins on the cage were nearly closed up, and probably up to an inch thick. 10 minutes in vinegar, and it looks brand new. You'll be surprised how quick the vinegar will eat the gunk off.

I soak them in a 10 gallon tank I have and mount the MPs to side with driver. Do this one at a time. Fill the tank with some RO water and Vinegar and let them run for a few hours on N/Export mode. Works like a charm!

Sincerely,

David

I used to put MP10 in vinegar but it did not helps much for old deposits. So I use "lime-away" (or similar). They look brand new after 5-10 min bath. No need to scrub.

I give them a scrub with a baby bottle brush then a good soak in straight vinegar. about an hour or 2 later I give them a dunk in either rodi or tank water then right back to work.
