What is the best way to frag these?

Thanks,
Monica

I'd use a razorblade and peel it off the rock at the base then seperate the polyps. Gel superglue the base to new rock/fragplug. Probably more than nessessary but i've done it to several pallys.

I frag alot of zoos and I tryed that peeling method with a razorblade and I struggled with it, they just wouldnt come off very well for me. I use a dremel with the diamond wheel cutter....then start chopping! LOL

Monica, what I learned this weekend on Zoe's is you need to wear gloves when cutting them. They can be toxic and sting bad enough to make you a little sick. I have some that need fragged or cut back as well. Remember this is what I was just told, we learned how to frag Duncans, Frogspawn, and a few others. We also came home with a very nice size green brain coral. Jason

Jason, Yes they are toxic. They release a very strong toxin. No only do you need to wear gloves but also eye protection.

I have read in one of the reef magazines they actually have the most powerful toxic in the world! it was a very interesting article

Monica, I don't know anything about fragging but I read somewhere on GARF's site that you can cut the pallys about 3/4 down the stalk and super glue them and you will have the frag and the remains will grow another head. Could'nt hurt to try one. Good Luck

As soon as I get that new frag tank up and running I am going to frag these palythoas. I will wear all of my PPE's. Luckly I have everthing I need at work.

Depends on how you would like to fragment the coral... The best way, and most un-invasive way is to attach a small piece of rock rubble next to the colony, that way the colony will grow over onto the rock rubble and you can divide the connecting tissues with a razor blade... OR, as stated above.. Just slice the &^#( thing! haha :)

Cutting is quicker, but, also as stated, BE CAREFUL!!! Palythoa Toxin is EXTREMELY toxic! Wearing gloves (non powered latex) is the best way to divide...

:) Happy Fragging!
Be Careful!
