Hi there,

I am going to be shipping many nerite snails and cerith snails in a trade and I was wondering if you could give me some advice. Should I try to pressurize the bag with lots of air or should I do mostly air and just enought water to keep them moist or should I fill the bag with as much water as I can and not worry about air? Would a product like Amquel help? Would Amquel be harmful to the snails?

Thanks!
Kevin

First of all don't add ANY chemicals. You don't mention where you are shipping to. Is it traveling via truck or airline? If airline, then do NOT fill the bags tightly. You'll need to allow for expansion when the plane hits higher altitudes or your bags will burst. I wouldn't go too crazy with water either, as it will add to shipping costs. I've had both good and bad experience shipping snails with wet towels (no water). If they survive this method, then there's no acclimating needed. Just drop them in their new tank. I'm going to suggest shipping with water just to be safe. Be sure to have the person receiving these snails acclimate them slowly. If the acclimation process is rushed, there is a good chance the snails won't survive very long.

Hey Jim,

Thanks for the info. They will definately be on a plane at some point so I won't have the bags too plump with air.

Thanks!
Kevin
