Best way to transition to eating frozen?

I know the best way is to buy seahorses already eating frozen.
But here in Canada the seahorse selection is, well hardly above non existent.

I have 4 cuda's and they are great, eat everything.

But I recently got 2 barbourri that are only eating live. I normally wouldn't have bought them, but this is the first time I have seen anything besides cuda's in more than a year, and that is even getting the stores to try and bring in other kinds.

So I have these 2 barbourri, they were at the LFS for almost a month (not a store I regularly visit) and I am not sure what they were eating there, the owner didn't know anything about them, called them yellow seahorses. I somehow doubt they were feeding live, but again I couldn't get anything from the staff between general lack of knowledge and English being their 3rd language.

How do I get these guys eating frozen?
Or in the least does anyone know of a place that will ship live mysid to Canada?

Thanks.

in GTA, we have alot of seahorse sources, mainly captive bread. not sure where u got those ... if you mean Sum though, his ponies are great.

you feed ure kudas frozen and new one will follow.

or u can train them with a turkey baster, dangle a mysis at the tip in front of the sea horse.

live mysid is way too expensive, go with enriched brine if anything.

Hi Jeff,

If you go to seahorse.org their is a chap called rayjay he lives in canada and also breeds sh if anyone can help he can.

I'm in Edmonton.

If any of these places ship I would love to get a pair of redi's, and tigertails.

Mysid isn't too bad from the states, and if I could get some I am sure my main systems fuge/sump would breed lots. (220g sump/fuge).

I am doing the brine, but wish I had a better option. I can't even find live adult brine here. Just eggs.

I'll try the turkey baster idea though, would tongs work too?

Barbouris...how awesome! I hardly ever see them here in California.

If these barbouris are not juveniles, can you get live ghost shrimp to offer them while they transition over to frozen mysis? Ghost shrimp might be available from a bait shop if not at your local fish store? I have a couple of seahorses in my tank that are very picky about their food and don't always eat enough frozen mysis, so I supplement their diet with live ghost shrimp (you can probably even find them on eBay). Ghost shrimp might be a way to help your Barbouris as they transition over to frozen mysis, especially if you fear they have not been eating enough recently. I find mine will eat either freshwater or saltwater ghost shrimp. Of course, if your seahorses are juveniles then please ignore my suggestion.

Best way to wean off live onto frozen is to start mixing a little frozen with the live until you see them picking at the frozen. Then, gradually increase the amount of frozen and decrease the amount of live until you are only feeding frozen.
I hope you haven't mixed the species.
