Best way to use DC return pump

I am planning a 30 gallon reef system, and, I would like to use your DC pump with the battery back-up for the return pump ... what is the best setup to use? i.e. just the pump and battery back-up connector? or do I need a 7091 also?

Yes that's all you need; you don't need any controller. If you want to adjust the flow then the 1073.05 has a small dial that allows you to do that. For battery backup you'd just need the pump and safety connector (battery connector) and a battery and charger which you provide. We can give suggestions for those if needed.

Just keep in mind for full power the pump needs 24V making a battery backup more complicated. It can be done but I would go to batteries plus and talk to them about battery and charger options. For flow pumps it is generally no problem to limp by on 12V but as a return pump, the loss of ability to handle head pressure may seriously reduce the usability of the pump so an 18 or 24V backup is likely needed.

hmm, that is a bummer ... I have typically used a deep cycle marine battery with a battery tender ... hmm

At 12V the maximum you could pump is about 3ft. 18 or 24V shouldn't be that big of a deal, Batteries plus stocks 18V SLA batteries and chargers and that would be one way, the other would be a 24V two 12V batteries in series, I was actually just there today as our pallet scale had a dead battery and they have them or make them up as needed and it was two 12V batteries wired in series and held together by a heavy duty tape. A suitable charge would be the main concern but I am sure they could help. In general I am not easily impressed but they had to make our battery for the pallet scale and I didn't even know they had such capabilities and the result was fairly impressive and professional.
