which will give me better par for a frag tank, run on 175w coralvue electronic ballast?
thanks for any advice

When you compare 2 different bulbs forom the same manifacturer, lower K bulbes have a higher PAR then the higher K bulbs.

Therefore the 14K Coralvue have the highest PAR of the two.

If you want some par on a 175, try the Iwasaki 15,000K bulb, it will be about double of that coralvue bulb.

True.

When you take into account the different brands, the labeled kelvin rating isn't very accurate. There will be instances where a bulb that's listed as a 20k, has more punch than something listed as a 15k, and vice versa.

It's unfortunate that the 175W Coralvue e-ballast wasn't tested.

Actually that assumption is wrong. For example the 20K XM bulb has higher par than the 15K XM bulb.

 That's one of the exceptions. XM really screwed up when they made that bulb, although, I have heard that their working on a new version.

The Coralvue 250 Watt 15k vs 20k is another exception according to Sanjay's site. So I wouldn't jump to the conclusion the 175 watt isn't the same.
