BEWARE Eshopps nano skimmer

I recently purchased the new Eshopps nano skimmer with Sicce pump for a new 7.5 gallon nano I set up. This is the most poorly designed skimmer I've ever purchased. The skimmer is attached to the side of the tank with a weak magnet, and you must raise or lower the skimmer in order to adjust the water level inside the skimmer. If you cannot keep the water level EXACT at all times, the skimmer will not function properly. Most worthless piece of junk I've used in a long time, and still waiting on a reply from Eshopps on how they intend to remedy the situation. Without some kind of modification, this thing is another Chinese paperweight..

Pretty typical of tiny nano skimmers. I got several nano airstone skimmers that are new. They all work like that. At least it has a magnet, instead of suction cups.

FWIW most skimmers are effected by water level (even large 1000$+ models). The solution is an auto top off.

If you have a sump, have a designated skimmer section where the water level never changes. You don't need an ATO.

Skimmers are pointless on a 7.5g tank anyways. Weekly water changes are a MUCH better way to go.

all good skimmers function this way. You keep the water level consistent or it will not work correctly. Actually, the better the skimmer, the more this matters.

One of the reasons I prefer a recirculating skimmer, it is not dependent on the water level to stay the same, it could be said that a poorly designed skimmer requires a constant water level, but I won't say it. :D

I also agree with a skimmer on that small of a water volume is a waste, water changes are more sufficient.

all skimmers except external skimmer are affected by changes in water level

unless the skimmer is placed in the sump as others suggested

OH, I would think after a few weeks break in time, it will be less sensitive..best to do now is set it up so the water is low and let it's run, break in and just skim dry for the next few weeks. You'll go mad trying to get it adjusted right while it is breaking in.

Why would you ugly up a pretty nano with a skimmer? ugh. that defeats the whole minimalist vision of a nano tank.

You don't even see the skimmer, I have a separate custom overflow box. Anyway, I own 7 skimmers, and this is by far the worst skimmer I have ever purchased. I emailed Marine Depot about this skimmer, and they said they are getting the same complaints. After 5 emails I still have yet to get a reply from Eshopps. I guess I'll just have to modify this piece of junk myself and make it into what it should have been. Hell, maybe I'll include a tiny mesh wheel too.

Tank is almost finished cycling, iphone4s can't take good LED pics worth a ****....
