Beware of BWI plumbing

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this but I want others shopping for GHL products to not fall into the same trap I did. In short beware of the prices in US dollars at BWI's website, which is in Canada. I purchased a GHL doser and Fauna Marin salts based on the price in USD, I even have an invoice with the total in USD. When I received my credit card statement I found that I was charged the price in Canadian dollars and that the conversion rate is quite a bit different than what is on the website, about $70 more in my case. Whenever I call to discuss this I either get voice mail or the runaround, so far no calls have been returned.

Hopefully this is a misunderstanding but beware, at the very least the website is false advertising, and USD prices should not be listed if the conversion rate is not up to date.

An update for all 17 who have viewed this since I posted it. BWI contacted me this afternoon and has credited me for the error. Tyler apologized for the error and was unaware of the problem with the website. At this point I can only assume that he is tremendously busy and had not been able to get back to me sooner.

Being in Canada I wouldn't have the same problem as you described with the exchange rate since I'm able to order/pay in $Can. Just wanted to mention that I purchased a 75GPD RO/DI system from BWI and am very happy with the product. In fact, there was an extra stage and several other items included which were not part of the system description on line, i.e. I received more than what I paid for.

I ordered from a canadian dealer. I called them to ask how the conversion is handled since the checkout price switched back to canadian dollars. They said that they charge the credit card in canadian dollars and the credit card company immediately handles the conversion at the current exchange rate. It went smoothly for me. Good thing you checked though. It sounds like the error was in the amount charged, not the exchange conversion.

www.progressivereef.com use live USD rates, this is the way it should be done, you also pay in USD so you do not get hit by bad credit card exchange rates. Using live USD rates you also pay less than any bank rate also.

You can also use www.ghl-direct.com for complete clarity.

there are huge advantages having the GHL range based out of Canada you really do benefit on prices and with dealers offering things like free shipping there should never be any concerns.

We do have USA store front only dealers that are happy to ship to you also, we just do not sell to online stores in the USA anymore who do not have a store front also.

Progressive reef is where I purchased from. They show USD until you are ready to submit your order. It switches back to Canadian at that point. That is why I called to check how it is handled and was told they charge the Canadian amount to the credit card company who immediately applies the exchange rate at that time. This makes the most sense to me since the credit card company should be the one who is better in touch with exchange rates.

I'm just updating this in case anyone else wonders the same thing as they work through an order with progressive. Great people to deal with by the way.

This is good information to know and means they have updated their site.

Progressive Reef really should be everyones port of call for GHL due to the service they offer and always have things in stock.

But if anyone wants a USA based online store please go to www.ghl-direct.com
