BHAM Frag Swap??

Sounds good I plan on being there, I will have several bunches of macroalgae (red garcilia) from my fuge which I will bring to give away. Also got a bunch of green star polyps which are taking over and I need to get rid of.

Whoa, sorry i've been away so long. Work has been rough and my wife and I are looking to buy a house so that's been stressful too.
But anyways, I have a 50g aga with black stand that i can bring. i just wanna get rid of it and was gonna try to sell it in my parents yard sale. but if yall think someone will buy it or you can auction it or raffle then i will bring it. Very excited about how organized we are acting :) haha

hey Mebo i tried to PM you but it wouldnt let me for some reason. so let me know if i can do anything.

Oh and i think it is an awesome Idea to ask everyone to bring a canned food item. thats so great to use this as a way to help out others as well. :)

so what is the update on this thing? no one has said where/when? how many tables have people committed to? who do we contact to get a table?

To everyone wanting to know about the bham frag swap if you would like a table please let brandon2432 know or myself. Right now as it stands brandon is at the church today to get the finale ok on the date we can have it . I think it is going to be on june 6th. I talked to some of you at the swap this weekend about being there. Everyone who started talking about this have been booted. We are still working on getting raffle prizes. we already have several.

P.s i would love a head count on people needing a table !

I don't know if anyone up there has given it much thought, but it would probably be most beneficial in the future for us to work together and come up with something like a six-month cycle between Montgomery and Birmingham where one club hosts a swap around now (we chose our date based on the timing of other swaps and Spring Breaks), then the other hosts about six months later. Just something for you guys to think about going forward - obviously it doesn't impact what you're trying to put together for June. We're basically only an hour's (a little over two from as far as Cullman) drive apart, and corals don't grow >that< fast. It doesn't make any sense for this to happen again.

ok W everyone knows and understands your displeasure so in the future maybe someone can work with the powers that be a little better. So with that said hopefully we can move forward for now without your approval. Whom ever would like to contact the person that worked so hard to get a lot of what progress was made here before the reef gods decided he was not a beneficial memeber can PM me for his E-maol address.
Thanks Terry

I was at the swap this weekend and unless iam wrong i didnt see any one sell out of the frags that they had . So to me it makes perfect sense to have this swap this soon. Yes the timing could be better but at the same time i seen several people leaving with there frag tanks full and iam sure they would love another chance to sell and try to make alittle money.

Whoa! Not sure where the venom is coming from. I guess I wasn't clear, but I wish you guys nothing but the best for what you're trying to put together in June. If I have room left in my tank, I may come up myself. I was just offering the idea that in the future we could work together and have two good swaps in very convenient distance from each other, instead of one jumping onto the other and weakening both. I already explained why we picked our date, and I expect we're going to maintain that relative time going forward. Certainly no one needs my permission to schedule or plan anything - the reefers in the Birmingham area get to decide when to have their own swap. Just seems to make sense to me.

As far as my feelings go, I did feel what happened was pretty bush league, but it's history now. I'm happy with what I got and what I sold personally, and everyone who's posted in our thread has had positive comments about the swap, the people they met and talked to, etc. Let me ask you this, though - how would you have liked it if the roles had been reversed?

Anyway, like I said, good luck with your swap, and maybe I'll see you there.

Will

as I'm sure you guys are finding out, it takes a LOT of hard work to put one of these frag swaps together. Especially if you want it to be successfull for all parties involved.

To be successful year after year, the table vendors have to feel like it is worth their time and money to come to a frag swap. If a swap is consistently producing low buyers, would you want to make the drive and drag a ton of corals w/ you?

From a buyers perspective, would you want to drive a couple hours away when their's going to be a swap in your backyard in a month? As we all know we're in a recession, who can afford to drive to two separate swaps an hour away from each other in a span of one month??

Bham- may be the sellers didn't sell out because their weren't enough buyers? Comparing the first swap to the second, the raffles were MUCH better this time plus there were double the table sellers. So, the question is, why didn't people want to drive down to montgomery?? The Montgomery club is a club w/ members, a BOD, & has great support from three local sponsors. So, why didn't you sell out? The first swap I sold everything but may be 5 crappy corals. I think this was the point that was trying to be made.

For swaps to be successful, the buyers have to feel like it was worth their investment of committing their time to a swap plus you need buyers and that includes having the support of other clubs in your area. Montgomery needed support from the reefers in the surrounding cities, and vice versa, just as you guys will too. Without these, a swap will fail.

Their were no personal attacks on any one particular individual, but I think if you guys had worked really hard for months and months and with a month to go, some person came on here out of the blue and said "i want to have one in my own home town b/c yours interferes w/ my work schedule, oh and let's do it a week after ya'll have yours?" how do you think you would feel?

As a member of CARC, I can understand your feelings. The idea was not to interfere with your swap but to try and get something going in this area.

I think the idea of staggering them is good, this is something that I will bring up at our next meeting. Unfortunately, we have already received raffle donations and booked a facility but in the future, I am sure that we can work together as clubs to have great swaps that benefit everyone in the state.

I would've loved to attended your swap this weekend but I had prior commitments that I could not get out of. Everyone from CARC who attended had nothing but good things to say about your event and I hope that we have the same success at ours.

Thank you, Ricky, for understanding what I was trying to say in the first place. I've already forwarded Brandon's contact info to two of our local sellers that I thought would be interested.

Again, good luck , and I hope I can make it up there.
Will

Thank you kingricky for your UTMOST understanding of our feelings.

Even though it started out as "getting something going", which is a WONDERFUL idea, you have to understand how we felt when someone just decided to do this, and then everyone chimed in...oh let's go to bham so we don't have to drive to montgomery?

we do wish you guys well.

.....um i just want things to go smoothly between the both club since I'm kinda in both :). I really enjoyed being one of the vendors yesterday (everyone was very nice and hospitable) and I personally wouldnt mind doing it again.

I think i didnt make myself clear i didnt mean anything negative about the swap when i said something about people not selling out. What i was saying was for the people who didnt sell out this would give them another chance to make some money I know i could use the money now not 6 months from now thats what i meant by that.

Now i will tell my side I loaded my car drove 2hrs got and paid for a hotel room set up at 11 oclock at night got 4 hrs sleep came to a frag swap didnt so much as bring a coral of mine so i know there was no chance of me making any money and i did all of this to help my friend out and to support the montgomery club. My friend and i could easily just of said oh well the bham swap is in a couple of weeks and just skipped all that headache but we didnt and that is because we think that you have something very good going on so we wanted to support that and we expect you to support us also.

Just to let you know i just sat at our meeting today and talk about how organized and great your club and swap was, I also told all of our members that we needed to take atleast a saturday a month and drive to Aquarium fantasy that it was that nice of store.

So to come on here and see people saying things like that just really floors me i have been at both of the montgomery swaps and will be at any of them that you have regardless of when the bham swap is

Also iam speaking on behalf of everyone in carc i assure you if any of use ever thought our swap would have hurt yours we would have never made it that day. But your right this is our first swap so we are learning as we go and we will make sure from now on they is a longer time apart
