Bicolor angel

So my LFS has one of these about 4" in there coral pond. Which i was surprised with. They have a ton of coral in there of all sorts as well as clams.

Thought that was a no no with these guys?

Or as always just depends on the personality of that fish.

Would like to hear from folks that have this fish in there reef tank and how it does with corals.

My c. bicolor is in a tank about two years, doesn't eat any corals (incl. softies, LPS, SPS).

I would give a lot for a guaranteed reef safe bicolor. Sadly I don't think there are any guarantees with fish and coral.

Guess it boils down to how much risk are you willing to live with?

I've seen them kept in reefs before with some success, but I've also seen experienced hobbyists keep clown triggers, queen angels, and groups of domino damsels in their reefs. None of these I recommend, and all of these are *extremely* risky feats to try to pull off in a reef tank. IME however, bicolor & lemonpeel angels are the most notoriously un-reef friendly dwarf angels out there. If you really like the bicolor angel, try to find a healthy juvenile specimen and keep him well fed, this is my general advice to anyone attempting a riskier angel/butterfly species in their reef.

I have kept multiple over the past few years, i have a pair in my 200 right now but they have all eventually started to nip zoo polyps and a few LPS they never have bothered any of my SPS so that is what i keep with them.

Evil fish. Beautiful but the 3.5" one I got was downright aggressive. He was promptly returned to my LFS.

I hope you have better luck. I've read it's a crap shoot. I lost.

I had 2 of them in my 125g for about 6 months or so, before I had to sell them recently due to an upcoming move. During that time I saw them take a few looks at some of my coral but never bothered any. Never did any harm to my zoos, bubble coral, mushrooms, or the gsp (wife wanted it :/) I think it just depends on the fish but I found mine pretty much stayed away from the coral and were constantly picking at the rocks, my overflow box and the coralline on the back glass. I think it may help to have a little more than normal algae and stuff growing in the tank to keep their busy mouths occupied. Mine would gaze pretty much from lights on to light out for them, as well as assault frozen shrimp and Cyclops. I did notice that my population of q-tip sponges dropped quickly after I added them.
