As the title says, I would like to hear some feedback on people's experiences with these guys. Thanks in advance.

If you can get one thats eating at the store get it, But QT it as it will probably have something with it. Mine has taken to capt pretty easily, and eating like a pig.

thanks creetin. I know these have a reputation as being a bit tougher, and I was curious as to how deserved that reputation was/is.

This is my second one, The one prior lived for a few years till i had to switch tanks.
Both pretty easy, Look for one eating and bossing the other fish around with it.

They don't live long in captivity. Be interested to hear success stories of keeping these beyond 2 years (even a year).

Mine has been with me for about 18 months. From day one he ate, no disease problems, and outgoing. He nibbles at live rock throughout the day. Now he is in my 200 gal tank. I believe it has to do with collection practices more than the fish itself, from what I have read.

I will have had mine for 3 years come July, 2010. I don't know how old he might actually be because he was a gift from another aquarium dude and I don't know how long he might have had him. He hasn't grown much since I got him, but many people comment that he is the largest one they've ever seen. (Might be 3")

Eats everything I feed, including pellets, frozen seafood and nori sheets. Tends to pick constantly at everything, but doesn't concentrate picking on anything in particular (like clam, corals etc.)

Here's an old photo I took after he had a run in with somebody. That tail fin healed fairly soon after. This thread has served to remind me to try to get a more recent photo of him...

Good to hear. I had 2 just drop dead after 6 months. But I was a total nub back then.

I've got one in my 210 for about 3 months or so and he's doing real well.
I hear plenty of live rock will be beneficial to this fish but he is now eating the frozen mysis and brine i feed.
I've also got a Coral Beauty in with him and they both ignore each other.

Mine is best friends with the coral beauty. I am adding a C. ferrugata in 3 weeks (post QT). We shall see what happens.
