big crab ID

I caught this crab months ago, but never got an ID. I think there are more of these in my tank so I would like to know what they are.

Hi Stefania,

that should be Platypodia granulosa (or at least another species of that genus, P. eydouxi would be possible either).

Not very reefsafe: http://www.reeflex.net/tiere/2900_Platypodia_granulosa (Rüppell, 1830).htm (feeds on mussels and snails, zoanthids and sea squirts)… In a sump it may live well if you want to feed it there.

Would take it but Germany is a bit too far

Allright I have some catching to do. It's good that this tank doesnt have anything but fish. We upgraded to a bigger tank and all the live rock is still in the other one. So I will be checking every rock for crabs.
oh and btw I live in Belgium, not so far from Germany
