Big Goby Problem

my Yellow Watchman Goby seems to have his entire tail missing. 1/3 of his body is just gone. His tail to his back fin. He is still swimming around and he just ate. I have no idea what happened.

He is around 5 years old. The tank is around 7 years old with no aggressive fish. No new fish at all in the last 2 years. I have a wrass a green chromis and some hermits. Its not an open wound it seems to be sealed off but I think its new today.

Very odd any ideas would be great.

see if I can add an image

Seems unlikely in a tank that old. But my parents had a tank for about 2 years when a tang one day had no tail, they ended up figuring out/finding/thinking that it was nasty crab that had lived in the rocks for a long time. I guess The tang just happened to put itself in the rocks near the crab one day and he took advantage.

That picture is incredible, I cant see him living much longer, sorry :(. Def looks like a crab maybe got ahold of him.

I would agree about the crab but its been years since I added anything but snails. The rock is 7 years old and my last and only crab was an emerald that died 4 years ago

WOW

I would have to +1 with a crab. Possibly a powerhead accident? Sorry that this happened. I hope the best for the little guy.

im not sure if I should scoop him out and send him off to the big fish bowl in the sky rather than have him either suffer or die under a rock and crash the tank

he is sad to watch he just keeps staring at me

if he ate, i would leave him. if fish are dying, close to death, or anything to that extent they will not eat.

good luck

I would definitely not give up on him. If you lost a leg, would you want to be sent to the great LFS in the sky? Seriously though, he looks to be functioning. If all of his intestines are ok, he has a strong chance of recovering.

hey I like the little guy im pulling for him but he is missing 1/3 of his body. I gotta assume quality of life goes down from here.

wish I knew what happened
