Big problem

As some of you know I've been working on setting up a display tank for years. My tank is finally about ready to be installed and now my wife doesn't want it upstairs, like on the first floor any where. :fun2: This is a huge problem.

I have no idea how to convince her so I might need to ask for forgiveness.
Thoughts or ideas welcome.
FYI I don't have a finished basement either.

well not knowing any details really kinda hard to say.

Maybe let her have some input on it, maybe she just doesn't like the design? Or how it will look in the given spot.

or just finish the basement into a man cave and call it a night.

get her a weekend spa package and set it up while she is gone. She'll get over it. My wife had no idea how big my aquarium was going to be until I was walking in setting it up. By then it was too late. Keep it looking good and don't let any aquarium paraphernalia laying around so it looks nice.

The tank is a constant fight between my wife and I, she knows how important it is for me, but at the same time there are many aspects she doesn't like about it.

These things helped.

1. I went overboard to make it dead silent. I even put a layer of sound proofing material in the stand. It was similar to 1/2 inch pressboard stuff.

2. She doesn't like how bright it is, so I setup the lights on an Apex sunset schedule so that they drop to 1/3rd power at sunset year round. This keeps it from being super bright at night.

3. I setup a switch so the lights shut off when the hood opens.

4. I keep the size reasonable, and make sure she has space in the living room as well.

I agree with the above, talking about what the issue is will really help because then you can address it.

These are some of her concerns as well.

I made it quite by installing my sump and equipment in the basement.

The brightness is an issue that I addressed by building a solid canopy. That doesn't allow light to escape. I like the switch idea so that can be done easily as well.

I down sized so it would easily fit in a corner.

I feel your pain.
My tank resides in the basement because when we moved into our current house, my wife said it was her or the aquarium on the main floor. She said it in a more reasonable way and I got where she was coming from.
Luckily for me, we had space in the basement.
It has been in 3 different locations (and 3 different set ups) in our basement over the past 12 years or so...
My wife's legitimate concerns were smell, noise, and fish stuff sitting out all the time.
Have you had a good, positive, non confrontational discussion about her concerns?

A compromise of new dining room and living room furniture might have just got my DT installed.

Lucky for me my wife understands that I will be spending most of my at home time either working on, in or just enjoying my tank. That being said if she wants to see me or have a conversation with me, the tank should be in a location she wants me to be in.
