BIG Seahorse Tanks?

Is anyone running a larger sized Seahorse tank? I'm thinking about using my 120g RR for a tank centered around Seahorses. I'm looking for pictures and feedback for inspiration... was considering making it half planted with macro and half sps. Thoughts, input, etc. greatly appreciated.

dont know about big tanks, but sh dont do well with sps because of the high flow required to keep the sps and the heat generated by metal halide lighting

I'm planning on keeping the tank chilled to 74, and I'm going to isolate the flow to the SPS which will be in one section only.... I'm wondering if this could work.

Seahorses are going to hitch to the SPS which will bug the SPS. SPS can also sting the seahorses, some stings are worse then others depending on species.

I have seen such tanks work. But i will have to say it wasn't by the average hobbyist. You will also have to be very attentive and be flexible and capable of adapting it as you observe the progress of the setup. I would consider such a setup more for the very advanced seahorse keeper and reefkeeper.

Mines not 120, but it is a 90 gal., which is bigger than a lot of seahorse tanks. I have 6 reidis in it now. Will probably buy a couple more from seacraze/krazeekiddie in a while. I started with 4 and bought 2 more from them. I am adding them slowly to let the tank adjust, and also allow ME to adjust to their feeding needs and habits. Depending on how things go, I may top out at a total of 10. We'll see how it goes. Except for soft corals, macro algae, and gorgonians and such, I am planning on not adding any other fish. Well, okay, I've got a feather duster. The focus is on the horses.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out what is going to work for me. I've got a 120g tank, and am hooking up a 30g refugium to it. I also have another 34g... I'd like to make one of these tanks a horse tank...

I'm setting up my 110 for seahorses. I'm still messing around with the dry base rock & haven't ordered live rock yet. I'll let you know how it goes.

57vert - What a great-looking tank you have for your 'horses! I can't wait to be able to do a "big" tank for my 'horses.

Are yours very active?

Thanks for the compliment.

They're active in the AM, tend to go through a rest period in the afternoon.
