BigBarnacles big build thread.

FIRST CORALS ADDED TO THE REEF! Thanks to ykh for letting me stop by and pick up my first additions to the tank. The mini zoa colony is fully opened up after just 10 minutes in the aquarium. Pics will be posted soon.

The trip to ReefWise was great. Managed to scoop up the last two Starcki's. I'm acclimating them now. Also picked up 10 Astrea snails, 2 Turbos, 13 Nassarius (2 placed in the fuge), and two beautiful acan colonies. My zoas from ykh are looking great. I'm going to try and snap some pics soon. I'll have em up hopefully tonight.

I wanted to make the trip, but heat and the last 2 days of reef related spending made it pretty impossible. Looking great BigB...keep it up :hmm5:

OT...love the signature, have you seen Rum Diaries yet ?

Can't wait to see pics. Reefwise was a good trip for me too. The wifey picked out some pieces :)

Thanks! I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow. Dr. Thompson was the best. I still need to see the Rum Diary. I've been leary of watching it since I loved the book so much.

It's been an adventure so far in stocking the aquarium. First the bad stuff. The two Starki Damsels my wife wanted, and bought, barely made it past acclimation and ended up dying within 14 hours. I retested the water and the results were all good. They appeared stressed from the get go and hid the entire (albeit short) time in the aquarium. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise. Now the good stuff. Brian @ Reefwise is awesome and fully compensated me for my loss, no questions asked. The corals added so far include two beautiful acan colonies, mini zoa colony, three rainbow ricordea rock, and a nice torch coral. As soon as I get the time I promise to post some pics, although I'm sure you're all aware of what the fore mentioned corals look like. Another good thing...my PO4 is now 0.00 and the maintainance workers are doing a good job eating up the algae.
The cleaning crew consists of 4 turbos, 6 red legged hermits, 20 or so dwarf ceriths, 3 large nassarius, 10 small nassarius (2 of which reside in the refuge), and 15 or so astreas.
I've also received and have been using my hanna checkers. I have one for PO4, Ca+, and KH. They are all easy to use and save my color blind self from a lot of trouble. So, that's it for now. Keeping fingers crossed the corals all do well and if all remains stable I'll be adding my first fish in a few weeks. Other than a nice acan Reefwise is fragging for me I'll be chilling out on adding any more coral for a few weeks as well. And like I promised...I'll get pics up as soon as I can.

Sounds great.

LOL...I must've debated buying those ricordea rocks for an hour, but I passed. Just curious, what's the max percentage you have your AI SOL at ? Trying to decide if I want to bump mine up a little.

The ricordea looks insane under the LED lighting :spin1:. Here's my lighting schedule for the AI Sol Blue(s):
*I start the cycle later because I work PM's and like to see the aquarium when I get home.*
1000-w0 b10 rb10 ramp 60
1100-w5 b20 rb20 ramp 30
1130-w15 b25 rb25 ramp 30
1200-w25 b35 rb35 ramp 30
1430-w35 b45 rb45 ramp 30
1830-w25 b35 rb35 ramp 30
2030-w15 b25 rb25 ramp 30
2130-w5 b15 rb15 ramp 30
2200-w0 b5 rb5 ramp 60 "¢lunar cycle on

The acans and zoas seem to really like this schedule. I'll see what the torch thinks over the next few days.

My lighting schedule is VERY similar....my max percentage is 45 too. I noticed Reefwise has a sale on zoas/palys....looks like I'll be stopping in this weekend.

Here's a pic of my 2 acan colonies and my mini zoa colony. It's the best I can get as my only camera is my iPhone and the actintic light washes out some color in pics (which is weird since they make things really pop in person).

On a plug in the sand bed.

My cleaning crew has removed the algae since taking this pic.

And finally...some skim for good measure.

Since my last post I've added several pieces to the aquarium, as well as a Black True Percula Clownfish. Added corals include 2 poly colonies, another acan colony, a beautiful torch and a few candy canes. Last night my friend ayckorea stopped by with a nice little RBTA for me. I'm planning on posting some pics tonight after work.

The reef has been busy expanding. Besides adding more corals to the reef I've also added a partner for the black and white true percula clownfish...an orange/black/white true percula clownfish. The two paired up right away.

The torch at dawn.
