Biggest problem with Flame Angels in a reef?

Based on your personal experiences, what would you say is the worst part of keeping a flame angel in a reef tank? Is it aggression, coral nipping, munching on clam mantles, something else? Are they model citizens? This is a fish I am seriously considering for my upcoming 90 gal. reef and I would appreciate any advice I could get on the matter from experienced flame angel keepers. Thank you.

I believe its the luck of the draw. Some people get lucky and keep them with no trouble. I got one a few months ago and was not so lucky. He was not aggressive with its tank mates but he nipped at all my fleshey corals. My Acan's open brain, sorry to say he had to go. Flame angels are undoubtedly one of the most colorful fishes in our hobby. With that said you will roll the dice by getting one. Good luck

Mine was great for manys years, i would not have a reef tank without one....problems or not

My first which I got around 2000 never bothered anything. I bought one from Hawaii a while back and it has been a model citizen kept with clams and brains. I just bought a 3/4" one and she is fine, if there is a bad one I have been fortunate not to get one.

I have had one in mine for a while now. Haven't seen him nip at anything yet.... and haven't had any issues with aggression towards the other fish, if anything he's timid.....
