Biggest tank a single mp10 can handle?

I have a single mp10 on a 29g right but I'm always looking ahead. I plan on either going up to a 40B or 65g. They are both 36"L and 18"W with the 65g being taller. You think a single mp10 can handle either tank?

On reefcrest on the 9th of 12 leds it blows the sand at the bottom corner farest away from where it is mounted.

you are going to get a lot of opinions on this. You will find more than enough with the search feature. there are many people who believe in overkill, such as ^this guy^ who runs 2 MP40's in his 60g tank. and there are many people who run a single mp10 in tanks as large as 75g, and are happy with it, and all of their sps grows fine.

Just my 2 cents. I say for 20" and below, an mp10 is fine. for 36" tanks I'd say a mp20. for 48" tanks mp40. and for 5' tanks and up mp60's. All is relative to what you are keeping but these measurements are for flow depth. For instance, a mp40's flow will not reach to the other end of a 5' tank as an mp10 would not reach to the end of a 36" tank. I'd say one of each is enough however you would have to have another source of flow such as your return or another smaller powerhead.

I ran a 40 breeder for 6 months with just one MP10. It was no where near enough for my SPS. The flow from one MP10 will reach about 30" and then just die off leaving 6" at the end with a lack of flow.

I had a much better flow pattern when I added the second MP10. So IMO, no way one MP10 can handle a fully stocked 40g let alone a 65g tank.

So then in theory 2 mp10s should be able to handle a 48" long tank. Each one would meet 30" into the tank while giving full power to the first 24" on each side.

i have 2 mp10w's on my 65 mixed sps and lps reef. fairly heavily stocked and they create a hurricane when turned up to max. difficult to keep the sand on the bottom when turned up above 75%.

1 is not enough for a 36" tank. I have been using 2 mp10 on my 57g and recently sold them to upgrade to a mp40. 2 did a good job in my tank but I had to run them on 100% and they were noisy.

I run a mp10 on my 40 breeder on reef rest @ 80% and I have no issues with flow.
My Sps stock is limited, but the few pieces that I do have are doing great and I get great polyp extension. Good luck

My 20l is 30x12x12.

For your tank it should be fine. I used to run a 20long all SPS with 1 maximod and it was plenty. I think one mp10 with the correct aquascape and placement of the pump should be a perfect match for a 20long.

To the OP it completely depends on what corals you are keeping and how much rock you have in there. If you like the stuffed style (a big pile of rocks), one mp10 won't be enough. If you have an open aquascape and soft corals, lps and/or mini (less than 6") SPS colonies 1 mp10 can provide good flow but not optimal.
