Billions of bubbles, can you help?

I have my 75 up and running with an Iwaki 960 pump. In order to fit the pump, I did need to put an elbow in the line to the pump. The pump is pressure rated.

I have a refugium which sure looks to be generating a ton of bubbles from the return.

I just mixed the salt in last night, so maybe what I am seeing is actually some salt.......

The bottom line is that the water is cloudy on account of the microbubbles. Any ideas what I can do? Thx.

Are you sure its microbubbles and you didint percipitate the calcium out of it? I did that a few weeks ago :)

It has a GS2 skimmer. It is creating so many bubbles that they are spilling out of the extension arm wit the foam pad and into the refugium. The bubblesa re then being sucked into the pump and then the main tank.

Is there any way to stop the microbubbles from overflowing through the arm? Thx.

Can you cut back on the flow to the skimmer? Either that or youll have to find a way to add a few baffles into your sump.

Hmmm im not familiar with that skimmer. There probably isnt a setting. Are you local to me?

is it a new skimmer, new setup, new anything? Soemtimes when you set up a new skimmer it does that for a few days, and then the bubbles subside.

New stuff = bubbles. Good news is that after the bubbles are gone, you have some really ugly brown algae coming at you too.

As I prepare for my life and death battle wit the algae, what should I do? This is what will o r has been done and what I might think of doing (remember 75 gallons:)

1) Adding a 3 or 4 cool (as possible snails).

2) My first fish, to be picked up as soon as I get my LR and live sand, is a one spot foxface rabbitfish.

3) I will keepo the calc level high enough that corraline has chance to grow. There is already some purple on it at Les's place.

4) Adding 15 gallons of cycled water.

5) My water is RO - DI mixed with salt.

6) I have some bacteria in a bottle, in case that helps.

7) As soon as cycled, I was hoping to buy a Kole Tang.

Any other steps I should take? Thx very much:)

First additon should be a clean up crew. Lots of snails and hermits. IMO snails do a better job. Id go with a minimum of 75 to 100 snails. If your looking for a place reeftopia is great to deal with www.reeftopia.com You could even do a group buy with other members out by you to save on shipping :) I just checked if you get one of there algae packages its free shipping.

You're going to need a few more than that. I think Chris is a bit high saying 75 snails, but he's in the ballpark.

2) My first fish, to be picked up as soon as I get my LR and live sand, is a one spot foxface rabbitfish.

You want to add the rock and sand to your tank, and be sure there is no noticeable cycle happening. First fish should come well after the addition of live rock. Foxface is a good fish, just don't get stuck ;)

3) I will keepo the calc level high enough that corraline has chance to grow. There is already some purple on it at Les's place.

Water does not cycle. Rock, sand, decorations, heaters.... pretty much anything with a surface on it will cycle, and grow a bacteria colony. Very little bacteria is actually free floating in your water column.

5) My water is RO - DI mixed with salt.

That's good ;)

6) I have some bacteria in a bottle, in case that helps.

I don't believe in it, but I also don't think it can hurt.

7) As soon as cycled, I was hoping to buy a Kole Tang.

Kole is a reasonable choice for a 75 gallon tank, but should probably be added a few weeks down the road. Tangs in general are ICH magnets, and the newer the set up, the less stable it will be. Stability promotes healthy animals.

Any other steps I should take? Thx very much:)
