how long do you guys run your lights for?

I run for like 12-14 hours and was wondering if this was too much

12 to 14 hours is not too much in my opinion. As long as you don't get any algae blooms you should be fine. I always try to think about what our critter's natural environment is like and go from there. You figure the sun comes up anywhere from 6am to 7am and doesn't set until 8 to 9pm, which is anywhere from 14 to 15 hours. So if you're doing actinics for an hour first, then 12 hours of full light, and an hour of actinic at the end that should be fine.

I live in Florida.... just what reef do you know where the sun sets at 9pm? Or even 8pm?

But agreed. So long as you're not getting algae blooms, you're fine.

I'm not talking about the official sunrise/sunset times I mean when the light is still hitting the water. I know there are plenty of places around the world that have sunlight hitting the water from at least 6 am until 8pm or later.

Here in North Carolina, during July for example, we can have sunrise at 6 am and sunset close to 8:30 pm

Tell me what you think!

Hi there!! I'm joining this thread since I just bought a 29g BC. Before I go start a new thread, is there already a thread JUST FOR BioCube mods?

Also, as anyone used the AH Supply 36w retrofit kits for the 29g? Seems it would be a huge improvement with their well made individual reflectors.

you should add a refugium and a few peppermint shimps akwardparrot.

done the refugium in the second chamber, changed the ligths around so the fans kick on with the blue, and have a high fin gobi and pistol pair in there. the clowns are going in my 29g...

has anyone here installed a CPR SR3 skimmer in their BC29??? i just did today and im getting massive amounts of micro bubbles. is this normal or if not is there anything i can do about it??

thanks!

forddna- GOOD ANSWER! also where do you live so I can heist your clown!!! Or perhaps where'd you get it?

jun- skimmers have to 'breakin'

I got him from Doni Marie aka Woodstock. She is a member here, but she lists them for sale on another forum. She has "Snowcassos", Grade A and Grade B Picassos, regular and misbar Perculas. :)

I've read thru this thread a lot but wondering what the concenus is on clipping the top intake grate so that it will act like a surface skimmer.

What do you have in the third chamber besides the return pump? I put a bag of carbon where the sponge used to be and it significantly lowered the bubbles they were still present for about the first 2 weeks. You will also notice that if you ever change your airline tubing on your skimmer that the bubbles will come back for a few days.

Heres an inmemory of my BC for i have moved on to Finnex this is a life span of 14-16months...as you may notice some corals are missing in other pics because of several reasons 1.they died (only 4 i think 2 of where through chem warfare and i think the other 2 were from disease (mirco and blasto if i remember) 2. Some of the corals were actually my dads and i was just watching it. 3.My dad sometimes robs me but i get my revenge XD. so here it is

Hey how did that flame angle do in there? Ever have any problems with it nipping corals? I'd love to get one in my 29 just heard all the rumors about them.

My flame angelfish was reefrafe but it did take advantage of a dying coral such as my dying mircomussa. Mine unfortunalty died from a disease that i wasnt even aware of.
