i have issues w/ my nem as well, it does affect the corals around it, everything really, it is stinging my zoas currently.
 
I keep no long sweeper tentacled LPS in my tank with my anemone. The BTA is far too big no matter where I put the LPS their tentacles are very close to each other and most long sweeper tentacled LPS have far more potent stings than BTA's.
 
I just wanted to say how impressive so many of these BioCubes are guys and gals. I'm just getting my 14 started, and this thread is an inspiration.

I just got a 29 Biocube last weekend. I have the tank filling with water now. I ordered the Sapphire skimmer and plan on using a Korilla 1 for added flow. I have a 100W titanium heater that I will use. I have my old Litremeter III that I will be using for ATO. I am planning a zoos, Ricordea and LPS. A few small fish as well.

Down the road I will probably get the 4x36W light upgrade form nanotuners.

I do have a few questions though. With the stock lighting does the tank get hot? I dont want to get a chiller if I do not have to.

Any thing else I should worry about or look to mod now before I get rock in there?
 
Guys, I see some people saying the MJ1200 produces too much heat on the 29. I keep my house very cold. Would that still be an issue? Room temperature water stays at 72 or below. Room temp is around 66-68.
 
I'm not sure. I live in central FL and I had decently high temps before.... after putting in the MJ1200, my first thoughts were that it doesn't increase flow nearly as much as I expected. Not that it added too much heat to my tank. I can't get my tank below 82 now. But it doesn't get higher than 83 with the lights/fans on either...

If you want more flow and already have added a K1 or similar, I recommend looking into something more powerful than the MJ1200. Maybe mod the MJ1200 and if it's too powerful, use loc line to split the output into two?
 
modding the MJ, or any of the MJ series, with any of the propeller mods.. would def be way to strong for any of the BC series. I promise you the modded MJ's are insane, and should only be used in tanks that are long, and bigger than 40 gallons (thinking of a 40 breeder) Im my opinion, keep the stock pump for the return line, and add an additional k1 or 2x k1's for additional flow.

A Modded MJ1200, in my guestimated opinion puts out around 1800 - 2000 gph.
 
Yes, the modded 1200's are very high. At least 1200gph. I was more or less replacing the stock pump because people are saying the MJ is more reliable. If that's not the case, then I'd rather not bother.

I put a Hydor Flo on the outlet, and I'll probably be using a Tunze 6025 or Koralia 1 or 2.

I'm only intending to keep Zoas, LPS, and some Montipora's. No "real" SPS.
 
i tried a mj1200 in my tank, then a mj600 and they were both noisy. Not sure what i was doing wrong or if both of my pumps are just noisy. so for now i have stock pump which works fine and a k nano
 
I have about 30#s YOu can take out the bioballs and crush up about 5-8 lbs and put it in the middle chamber so that you dont have to have it all in the display. I also have the first chamber full of rubble and my heater. You can remove a lot from the display by crushnig it and hiding it in the back tho.
 
Great idea with the sapphire, i LOVE mine. If you take the great out of the middle chamber, you can squeeze some LR rubble under it, and then place the grate back in so that you sappire sits nicely on top of it. You can then pack chamber 1 with rubble as well, I have a bag of chemi-pur wrapped with filter floss where the stock cartridges are in chamber one with my rubble and heater. Oh, also take the grate out of chamber 1 to fit more rubble in there too.
 
I havent seen a way to take out the floor grate of chamber 1 like that of chamber 2. Is there a trick to it? Also.. as far as hiding the rubble underneath the skimmer in chamber 2.. I personally would not do that, it might restrict the flow just a little too much, and I personally think that rock without light is a waste of rock.. just my 02c

Just push the grate out. It's held in by some weak hot glue. Trust me. Give it a solid push and pops right out.
