Rob,

in my BC 29 with stock lighting (although I have replaced the bulbs)... my rics love to split, monti cap has trippled (about a 6" layered circle now), torch has increased 2 heads, zoas do fine... pagoda cup, finger leather, xenia, etc... all doing great.

Sorry for no pic, my camera has decided to take a vacation.

Really? That sounds promising. I may just keep my stock lighting for a while until I feel like messing with this 70w MH retro kit I have. I don't have a reflector yet anyway. :)

Before I got the sunpod, I kept a lot of softies and a good deal of lps including acans, frogspawn, torch, blastos, duncans and more. The only things the stock lighting will not handle are sps, clams, and some higher light needing lps. Sure a clam or sps may survive for awhile, but definitely will not gain any color(most likely lose color) and will not grow fast.

here are some top downs of my bc14 with the stock 48w PC's.

that pink monti cap is so high in the tank that part of it is out of the water. at that depth its doing great! i do have some of the same suff about half way down that looks like crud though. all my zoas and rics were doing just fine with the stock lighting but i recently upgraded to a 150w viper HQI. i freaking love it!

too lazy to have posted pics, agh.. I'll get around to it.. my 200 mile round trip commute to work kicks my butt~.~

 gotta love the 200mi drive to and from work!

im trying to get into the san antonio fire department right now and i frequently have to drive back and forth from austin, what a drag! the job im at right now is worse though! i find myself driving to dallas, houston, san antonio, kerrville, san angelo, port aransas all to install granite or pick up materials. thankfully i get paid for driving! ;)

no more excuses, we want pics! :D

Anyone else have issues opening the lid closest to the front of the hood?
LOL! I def. did. I usually left it closed but not snapped if that makes sense. i kinda did a fingers on the main top part and slid my thumb up to the tab pressing up and back at the same time. It seemd to be the easiest most consistant way to get it open.

I'm sick of scraping my nail polish off to get it open. lol I might just have to flip it over and get a better view..then file off some of what's grabbing so tightly.

once you figure out the up/back thing, it opens easy. just gotta figure out the precise method, but im sure the filing would help.

Yeah..it's just..you shouldn't have to do that. It has a lip you're supposed to use to open it. I'm gonna make that thing work, darn it! ;)

That lip is what im talking about pushing up/and towards the back on. use ur fingers to hold down the hood part while pushin on the tab.

Hello, just found this thread. I have a 29g biocube, Here are some pic's http://s720.photobucket.com/albums/ww206/ranger69_2009/
. I don't know if you have talked about this before. I am thinking of turning my 2nd chamber into a refuge what do you guys think? Will it make a difference? I upgraded my stock p/c hood to the nanotuners 144w kit. What light for the refuge do you recommend? Thanks I will update my pic's

CLEAN / REMOVE the blue sponge in chamber 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I replaced the stock filtration with a skimmer in chamber 2 and have been running my system for months. had a bad slimy algae / weird bubbly slimy growth thing going on so i went barebottom and sterilized all my rocks. tonight i was doing some routine maintenance and was messing around in my back chambers putting in a new heater. i realized that the blue sponge (where the water enters chamber 3 right before going into the return pump) has been in there since day 1, and i'd never thought about it let alone cleaned it.

needless to say it was GROSS. i rinsed for 5 minutes and got 5 minutes of pure gunk coming out. it had stuff growing there - worm looking stuff. anyhow i'll spare you the rest. but for ALL bc owners, this is something that might go under the radar without you thinking about it like it did for me. it can accumulate lots of crap over time and be a source of poor water quality as well as a hideout for gross organisms that can make their way into your display. so long story short this is my warning, hoping that you benefit from this late night discovery ;)

CLEAN or REMOVE that thing! i tossed mine out.

Ranger- I dont mean to be rude or the tang police, but that Hippo Tang needs to go asap. I realize its small now, but even that being said, it needs much more swimming space than our tanks can provide.

EDIT: How come every time I type R A N G E R 6 9 without spaces (Ranger69) it puts buytony
