lyfey, you can use a razor blade to clean the corners, it just takes a little time. i like to hold it vertical and drag it rather than push it.
hotrod, i had the same problem that your having with dust and surface scum. i cut the two outside ends of my overflow teeth and then bent them out of the way so that i now have surface skimming.

i dont know if you can tell by the pics but i just used a piece of acrylic to temporarily hold the teeth open to allow surface water to pass through the overflow. its wedged inbetween the skimmer and teeth. it looks pretty hack right now but its only temporary untill i feel like doing it the right way.
ps. RANGER69, scraping the paint off the back glass is super easy. i scraped mine off the center chamber in about 10 minutes. i didnt scrape all the paint off though becasue i didnt want light spillage to cause algae growth in the other two chambers. in any case its very easy and you cant really screw it up. just try not to scrape off the silicone along the edges...

I used a light I found a Lowes 9w Florecent. I scrapped the back just the size of the light. I used crate material to push my cheto( Spelling?) down I have my protean skimmer in the same chamber. But check out the light I think it will work great. I put about 2" of sand and LR. Do you think it will work good? What benefits did you see in your tank? Thanks for the advise.

Ranger, yes stock lighting, its the 2nd round - since I replaced the ones from the factory at 6 months.

I have had surface skimming issues in the past too but I think my problem was more related to the fact that I was using phosphate removal and carbon filter pads (HBH AquaPure Cut To Fit Filter Pads) that I retrofit into the original carbon particulate filter that comes with the BioCube.
My solution was to increase the width of the opening from chamber 1 to chamber 2 by about 1/2" for more flow. I also only use the filter pads for a week and then remove and run for a week or so without. I don't ever see anything on the surface anymore.
Another thing you might want to do is adjust the return pump nozzle so it is agitating the surface a bit more?

Hey, guys. What are you using to cut the opening between chambers 1 and 2 with? I'm baffled..can't find anything that fits. I was thinking of using those pumpkin carving saw/knife things, but I can't find any around the house. Any other time, I find them in the most random places! lol

BC scraped, I will def recomend (sp?) the long razors that you can get at a beauty supply shop for straight razors. I bought a straight razor like a year ago (was attempting to try to grow some sweet sideburns) but after cutting my face pretty bad lol, I dedicated that razor to scraping my tanks and cutting those annoying stickers on dvd cases. I took some pictures of my 125g tank but not the BC, I will tonight.
I took these picture with my iphone, and I can send them to my own email here at work.. Now with a firewalled computer how do I post them on the forum? I have never posted pictures before, I do not know how but I def want to and I know once I start, I wont stop lol

off topic as well, would i be wasting my money throwing a turbo in my s10? i really want to! :d
i think if you cut the baffle between chamber 1 and 2 a little wider or deeper then the water level should drop just enough to slide under the horizontal teeth stabalizer on the main overflow that seperates the display from chamber 1. that would eliminate the need to cut the horizontal teeth stabilizer off of the main overflow.
personally, i do think that extending the teeth on the main overflow all the way up will achieve the same result as what ive done to mine. as a matter of fact thats exactly what i plan to do with mine when i get the time. i dont like the idea of messing with the water level, once yoyu go to far it seems like a pain to reverse the damage. although my plan is completely irreversible! :lol: but there's no risk at all either
see RANGER69, that wasnt hard at all! you did good! is that actually a flourescent light or is it one of those under cabinet xenon or haligen lights? if its either of those then you should take it off! that thing will get so hot it will probably break the glass. and if it doesnt do that then it will at the minimum keep your tank at like 95 degrees!

Also i am considering the mod of the 1-2 chamber overflow, does anyone have some pics of how deep or wide to go with that? Thanks much!

Well I just joined the club my new Bio Cube 14 is up and running and I want to get a fuge going asap only issue is the light I need something low profile like ranger's, where did you get that and its enough light to run the fuge well without cheato die off?
