Bio Cube Owner's Thread

I do want to go 100% but even at 60% it was too much. I had to go down to 50% because my meteor shower cyphastrea is starting to bleach. I will be going up 10% each week until I reach 100%. Then I should be close to or equal to a 250w MH. I will finally be able to get this awesome table acro I have been envying at the LFS for months!

I'm confused, you are getting bleaching at 50%....but you still need to go to 100% are you sure. I mean, I know the acro wants light, but have you PAR tested that bad boy yet? Nanotuners set the meanwell dimmable drivers at 950mA on the internal control of the 6-48d. I know that a lot of people run them turned down to 350 mA or 750mA.

I don't know anything about 950mA or 6-48d but as long as I do it slowly, I should be fine running at 100%. I'll have to find someone in my area with a PAR meter I can borrow.

Ok, I'll leave you alone, with the understanding that if you do get a par meter, that you take readings all over the tank and post your results!

I'll tell you it was more than five but I don't give out exact numbers.

You make more than 5 dollars a year?! Wow! You must have a good ed-u-ma-cation!

On a side note: Does anyone else here feel that we should Trade Michigan to Canada for say 3 GSP frags and a Maxima Clam? I mean come on the Wolverines haven't done anything for like over 8 years.

Ok, when I said 5 it meant 500. And I think it's spelled education. spell check?

Anyways yeah I might have a lead on a PAR meter to borrow so stay tuned!

Isn't there anyone else on here with LEDs on a biocube?

I must say I was close to getting the LED's but I am glad I got a "plug and play" MH clamp-on cause I would end up botching the LED kit and then electrocuting myself. Plus now I get to enjoy the view and less time messing with the lights. I am looking forward to upgrading to a 50 gal or more one day.

I think the biocubes are awesome for nano reef but for me I think it's been more of the "gateway drug" and being on a budget I try to only buy equipment I could possibly use it on ANY size tank.

Well at least in my case, I can;t see upgrading any time soon so these lights will let me get any coral I want now. And I also like the biocubes because they are so simple and contained. I mean, they just look good. The nanocubes sometimes have skimmers sticking out of the back and stuff like that.

I certainly love the biocubes more, although it stinks that while jbj came out with a factory cube with LED's, oceanic just now decides to release an HQI cube, lol, COME ON!!!!

The LED nanocube doesn't compare. The HQI biocube is one thing but the LED nanocube does NOT have very high powered LEDs. For one thing I know that they are not as powerful as mine, which are about equal to a 250w MH. And you can't control them independently like with mine. Personally I would not buy the LED nanocube just because of how low powered the LEDs actually are. Oceanic was also smart not to put the MH INSIDE the hood like jbj did. Do you have any idea how many times you would need to replace the fans on a jbj HQI? and it's all because of the heat trapped in the hood. Let's face it- oceanic biocubes are just better designed than nanocubes. Don't forget the new fuge window in the back of the HQI!

Somewhere a nanocube owner is crying, lol. BOOYAH! While I plan to upgrade, I also plan on keeping my BC and who knows maybe one day I'll hit the lotto and I will upgrade my hood, lol.

We do get our feelings hurt quite easily......

Well not me because I bought my set up for $60 but someone who paid full price does. lol

14g bc newbie

Two months ago I bought a 14g biocube for my daughters room. I dont have any idea what I'm doing, and the lady at the fish store said this would be easy. It's not!! We got the live sand and live rock. Have 10 hermit crabs 5 snails and 1 shrimp. Also we have one clown fish. 0 nitrates, 1.028. I have a massive green hair like algea problem. After two months my tank looks nothing like any of the other tanks on this forum. I need help and lots of it. Thanks for all the advise, but like I said I have no idea what I'm doing. I dont have any idea what a refuge is...or any of the terms being used
