Bio Cube Owner's Thread

Recieved my WP10 and it works even better than expected. Couldn't have spent $60 on my tank any better!

Details:
Pump was placed in my 29 biocube in the top right hand corner in front of the top filter inlet grate. I am using it on wave 1 (W1) mode on medium power. It creates great wave action in my tank that my corals are loving. I will try posting a few pictures and maybe a video in the upcoming days

I'd like to see the video! Please post asap

Is there an inexpensive LED strip I can add to my stock biocube 29 lighting?

I have the newer version with the 4 empty led slots but have read they do not add any Par and are just for looks. I think my anemone and corals would benefit from a little more light but I do not want to go crazy at this time with replacement LED's.

Thanks.

I believe stunner strips seems to be an option. LEDs are becoming very popular, I'm sure there have to be some options out there

Just to add in here, I ripped out all the stock lighting in my Coralife 29 and replaced it with 4 stunner LED 12" strips. One all white, one all blue, then two that are the magenta/blue. I did leave one stock 3 LED lunar from the cube for evening viewing only. It produces a great bright white light in combination and my corals have opened up like I never thought possible. 4 strips and the main power box cost just under 250 from the LFS. The picture makes it look purple/blue because the camera picks up on it but it's completely white looking to the naked eye.

Isn't that about the same price as the LED retro fit kits? Did you compare the 4 strips to them and decide to go with strips instead?

I may not have searched the right places but to me it seemed as though when I searched I could get comparable pricing only if I soldered/wired the lights myself. In this case, these were readily available including a dimmer at my LFS and all I had to do was stick, plug, and turn on as everything is pre-wired with plugs so you can wire in a series up to the max wattage of the transformer.

So I can move these to any other tank or use that I want at any time easily. Thats pretty much what drew me to these.

I think im sold on a wp10. I have a hydor 425 now, along with the mj1200 return. If I add the wp, I think I would have enough flow for the long haul of coral.

Put the wp10 by the intakes on the right, set up the 425 on the left side pointing to the right glass, and aim the return toward the front glass angled up to mix the water.

How would that sound for water mixing?

how many of you are running a skimmer?

I keep reading that it is overkill, but also that it makes maintenance a lot easier and is better for keeping coral.

Would that be your first major upgrade?

No skimmer here, don't see the need but many do use them. I'm mostly softies so not going after the pure water. I have a CPU bak pak that if there is ever a need I can plumb it in with a few small mods on the back easy enough.

LED's you can also go Rapid or Steve's for retro kits. I have one of each actually. Both are nice.

I just added a Hydor Nano Slim Skim to my Coralife BC29 last night. I woke up this morning and it was already pulling gunk out. I already do weekly water changes, 5 gallons, so yes the skimmer may be overkill, but I want a clean looking tank.

Anyone else have a Hydor in theirs? The one thing I can't figure out is how to get rid of the humming sound it makes when the air valve is opened more than halfway.

I found my first inhabitant! pretty sure it is an amphipod, but I will take it! As soon as i got the iphone into camera mode, he ran away and wont come out again...jerk. lol

This one is a nice, cheap option and fits in chamber 1. That makes it very attractive to me. I want to leave my chamber 2 setup alone.

I have two sponges for filtration, matrix rocks for filtration and bacteria, then the carbon and purigen. Is your hydor in chamber 1?

I tried putting it in chamber 1, however I couldnt get the magents in there with it so it wouldnt stay in place. I really wanted to be able to keep it in chamber 1 so I wouldnt have to by an ATO.

Where would you put your heater if it would have stayed in chamber 1? I'm using an ato either way so my salinity doesn't get out of whack
