Bio Cube Owner's Thread

You are very welcome, I'm happy to help!

If you're really feeling like you have time on your hands, you can always start a build thread like myself and a number of other frequent posters. I think it helps you to see what you did, when you did it, your reasoning, and then track what the outcome was.

But if not, we're just happy to have you here!

I've considered starting my own, but I figured my tank was boring compared to everyone else's and assumed no one would have an interest in another boring stock Biocube build. I've got 4 days off starting today so I just might be motivated to do it, even if it's just for me.

idk, to me it's more than "show off what you have" though it can be that.

For me, it's about documenting the journey, getting feedback on the ideas that you may have, or listing a problem and asking for help and people chiming in with solutions, and being able to see the context of your issue in your log, so they won't just make some recommendation that won't make any sense for your situation.

This is exactly why I started my thread 3 months into my tank. It's not a "show off" at all, I learned so much from \clownfish/, and soulpatch's build threads, its immeasurable. Just the "having it all written down and why I did it that way", to look back on for your own self is so helpful.

Hey we all start somewhere, and our tanks certainly didn't look the way they do now back in the beginning, but with all the help from the people in this forum, yours will too one day.

Appreciate that. I just knew I was going to do some mods that others would be interested in. To flip the coin my frustration recently with SPS is why I am glad Reef finally started his thread.

THe biggest benefit I find with build threads is that I can look back at where my tank has come. Seocnd to that is for people to chime in with telling me to try something different or just to reinforce what I was already thinking. For instance I would have never gotten the Gyre if Cabo hadn't gotten into a PM convo with me and shot some video and I would have never known about peroxide had I not been linked to it in my thread.

Even if your build thread is just you posting to yourself you are making one heck of a tank diary that you can reference in the future to look back or even to look at what you changed when things go awry...

Quick question, maybe somebody will be able to help me.
I am planning to set up my next tank, small 16gal nano.
The Oceanic BioCube 14gal stand maybe a perfect stand for that tank.
Could somebody give me exact dimensions of that 14gal stand?
Online there are two different dimensions, with like 2" or 3" difference, thats a lot.
I do not want to order it to ship back due to wrong information, thank you.

edit:
Obviously I need the top of the stand dimensions, thanks.

Hey guys,
I added extra 4 LED bars to the extra slots in the hood of my bio cube. Only thing is, I realized that the switch for blue led must be on in order to have the extra 4 white leds that I put extra on which is waste since I only want the blue led on at night. Anyone else come across this?

Can't you rewire which switches do which, and combine them appropriately?

I'm not familiar with the switches, I just remember there being lots of terminals that you could use for different things. I'm surprised that you had to use one switch for all LEDs.

Can you provide a link for the directions you followed for the install, or provide pictures of the wiring?

If I remember correctly, the nightlight LED's(the ones between the T5's) are on one switch, actinics are one, white one, and the 4 other slots are one another. There are 4 switches, I never added any other strips and had a switch that was never used.

How much vodka are you dosing with the 29g. I'm thinking of doing it to get to an ultra low nutrient state while still being able to feed my fishes.

I figure it will bump up the efficiency of my skimming (already surprisingly decent for a nano skimmer)

Did you ramp up the dosing, and how much and how frequently are you dosing? I used to dose on my 120g, but I had a massive efficient skimmer then. Big difference in size though.

Thanks!

Ya I'm sure you've got this down by now about 7 months late lol. I did a slow ramp and at most I was dosing 1ml per day. I've backed it down to 0.5ml a day now.

Also fwiw, I've been able to fit the cpr aquatics mini tumbler reactor in the middle chamber with the Intank media basket. It was a tight fit. Wasn't sure if anyone already did that but figured I'd share just in case.

Is anyone interested in the stock biocube light setup? I've gutted mine for an ai. I have the stock lights, white/blue and the led strips that came with it.
I also have a innovative marine manga fuge led that I need to get rid of

Skimmer in Chamber 1

Skimmer in Chamber 1

I've been searching online for about 4 hours, so my apologies if I'm asking a question with an obvious answer.

I'm trying to put my Hydor Slim Skim in chamber 1. However, there's some silicone'd-in plastic 1/2 wall on the back and on the right. Additionally, it's got some slider thing that I'm guessing some kind of water deflector used to go in.

Can someone please help me find a tutorial for getting the SlimSkim to fit in Chamber 1? I'd really appreciate it!

i called the biocube manufacturer today they told me since the leds are only one watt each it wont help very much glad you posted gives me more to think about. for the $40 it cost to add the 6 leds im trying to find an led i can adjust and get more coral growth any ideas
