Bio Cube Owner's Thread

Thanks iFisch. Tank been setup for over a year now, two gallons water change every week or two. 70W Sunpod with 20K XM bulb, with four high power royal blue LEDs (I took out the original LEDs panel and replaced them with the royal blue). And everything that come with Biocube, including the bioballs.

Very cool. What's all in there, that you can remember? What salt have you been using?

I'm picking up a 14 gallon Bio Cube next week. Believe everything is still stock. The tank already has some live rock and sand, having been established for some time. Any advice for a new tank owner? :)

Sell the stock hood. Purchase 20" Current Nova Extreme T5HO lights. 1 fixture is necessary for most corals. 2 fixtures for heavy LPS and SPS and clams.

Upgrade stock return pump with a Maxijet 900/1200.

Add a Koralia Nano/K1 for extra water movement.

Remove bioballs, replace with some sort of phosphate removal and carbon.

Add small clip-on fan found at Walmart for $10 to push a little cool air over the tank.

And finally, add one of these heaters, either 50w-150w:

Wow, thats nice. I wish my BC 14 looked that good. Now I am depressed :( I guess I will do some aquascaping and go shopping for some more corals!!! :D

Some kind of finger leather, green nepthea, blue xenia, various kind of shrooms, and zoas, blue cloves. Recently added the orange and green digi and the blasto lps. And a green clown goby I bought three days ago.

As for the salt I am using instant ocean.

Can anyone post a picture of their Biocube with the Tunze 9002 skimmer? I'd like to see how high you have it sitting in the chamber.

Or, can anyone say whether there is a level that is TOO HIGH to keep the water, to maintain the level needed for the 9002? I'm stuck with the stock collection cup for the time being, and I'd like to get it up and running ASAP, without trimming even more of the tank!

Bongo, can you tell me more about the T5's in a stock hood? I modded mine to add a third PC, so I have some experience. You rarely hear about T5s in Biocube hoods. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks!

They are 21" Nova T5s. The same as the following but 21" instead of 36": http://www.marineandreef.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=RCU01105&click=2

I have two daylight and two actinic. They fit right inside the plastic light "guard" that covers the stock PCs. I had to cut out small openings in the plastic light guard for the wires to come out of it. I also am running a set of LEDs- four strips with 9 lights per strip-Daylight. I will be adding two or three more sets of four strips of LEDs as well. With the T5s in the hood, I can keep just about any SPS while keeping the classic all in one biocube look.

I will be adding more LEDs between the fans on the reflector, and on the front hinged opening on the hood.

Nicely done. I wish I could do that with my BC 14 but they don't make T 5s short enought. :( I'll be going with the additional PC mod when ever I can get to it.
