anyone know what kind of hinges the biocube 29 stand uses? mine are rusted and need replacing.

they appear to be euro style (or concealed) hinges. i'm currently thinking they are half overlay...

dont really know how. i'm hoping someone on here with more hinge knowledge can point me to a replacement part at a hardware store online / give me the details i need to search myself.

any help is appreciated.

hinges for the Stand?

I don't know where you can buy them but try calling Oceanic C.Service. they might sell you replacement hinges. If that does not work i would remove a hinge and try to find something similar at your local home improvement store, Lowes or home depot.

yeah the two metal hinges (top and bottom) that connect each door to the stand. allows the door to open.

thanks.

yeah i'm trying the second route -- just hoping someone can tell me what size they are. there are a few standard sizes so it's probably one of them but i dont know which (full overly, half overlay, inset, and then if half is it 3/8, or 5/8 or whatever).

8 Gal BC set up now for about 3 weeks. done cycling. Tore down my 80G to make room for my new 150 that will be here on 1 Dec. Gonna use the 80 as a sump for the 150.

RBTA is not in good shape. wsa on a 2 month business trip and the wife (very busy with a 3 yr old) neglected him a litte.

Added a small Talbot Damsel as the "canary". once he makes it i will put him as the canary in my new 150 and add a perc and maybe a twin sopt with some Zoos and xenia in teh 8gal. will post more pics as it gets better.

I currently have an ice cap fan on top of the hood near the right side outlet pushing air in the tank. Tank is about 77.3 before the lights go on and about 79 when they go off.

I have been seeing a lot about replacing the stock return pump and the stock filter cartridge on these lately. I have a BioCube 29 with everything stock other than a CPR skimmer in the second chamber. It has been running for over a year with no problems. Should I really replace these components, and if so, with what? Is there anything else that I should mod? Thanks.

I've had two biocube 29gs for over 3yrs. I still use the filter pads but eventually the stock return pump gets really noisy and dies. Thus you replace it. But until then, it's perfectly fine. Only mods I did (besides lights) are to get rid of the bioballs and use LR. Then I place the filter pad on top of the LR in the second chamber so the water falls onto the filter pad from the first chamber. I also punched out the little plastic piece in the first chamber that is about half way down. That way I can clean the very bottom of the first chamber and I can put the heater in the first chamber.

These two mods were suggested to me by a very helpful person from oceanic tech support.

Thanks Bongo Shrimp. It sounds like I need to get that false bottom out of there or else it will turn into a nitrate factory.

Yep, it just gets really nasty down there. Pretty big design flaw if you ask me. To get it out, just put your hand in there and push on it. You need to push kinda hard but don't worry because it probably won't break but even if it does you don't need it any more. Try pushing on it near the sides where it is glued in place. If that doesn't work just push on it right in the middle. I did it on two biocubes and it did not break on either one. Then just be sure to get a syphon in there and get all the junk out that has been sitting there for a year.

Wouldn't be surprised if your water quality gets better after you clean it out.

what, if any, protein skimmers are folks using for the BC 8g? i see lots of options for the 14 and 29 but not many who are talking about the 8gal.

I'm thinking that an 8 is just probably too small to see much use for a skimmer expecially if periodic water changes are performed--this is what i have read anyhow. On my 14 is use the BC skimmer and it does skim somewhat despite people's complaints about it...

Well Bongo Shrimp, I went to pop out the false bottom in the first chamber, and realized that if I did the filter cartridge would not stop and would just fall. Am I right about this? Thanks.

Yes, but what I did is to take out the plastic piece that sits horizontally in the second chamber, you know, on top of the bioballs and put the filter pad there. I was having flow issues where the filter pad would clog up and restrict flow. So I called oceanic support and THEY told me to do this. It helps with flow and filtration.

If you need a pic I can post one.

No, I think I'll either skip the mod or find a way to secure the filter after its gone, as I have a CPR skimmer that fills up the second chamber. Thanks!

Oh, my skimmer is in the first chamber. I'm sure you can find a way to secure it.

Here's my new LED spotlights I just installed:

What do you think?

Can anyone tell me if this is just OEM replacement fans for the BC 8g or is this a better upgraded fan? Also has anyone used this for their BC? how good is it and is it worth getting?

i am struggling keeping the temperature from large swings. 74 in the am 79 in the pm. i have an ice cap fan on the outside vent but it is not doing much. i can keep the front feeding lid open a little to vent but then i have evaporation like crazy.

I had a gash in my hand TRYING to remove the false floor. I gave up and it's still in there. Glad I'm not the only one.

Just went back to the beginning of the thread so forgive me if Im posting on old stuff. To remove the bottom rack in chamber one on my BC29, I inserted a fork through the slits in it. Then I turned the fork sideways so It would then catch on the rack and pulled it straight out.
