Bio Cube Owner's Thread

I get to join the club! I recently got a BC14 - it's been running since late November 2011. So far I've:

  • Purchased an inTank media basket and am running filter floss, ChemiPure Elite, and chaeto in that order.
  • Stuck a 20W light on the back of the tank for the chaeto running on a reverse cycle from my main lights.
  • Put a Korellia nano in the display underneath the main return angled towards the front glass. The return pump is stock and is angled down and to the left.
  • Attempted to remove the fake floor in chamber 1...no success so far...

It's currently stocked with a sixline wrasse, three red-legged hermits, two cerith snails, and a nassarius snail. Eventually I'll be putting a bunch of softies in as well but I'm still battling a bunch of algae, probably cyanobacteria :(

Water parameters are looking great: zeros across the board on ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and phosphate using API tests. All the rock, sand, and livestock was transfered from a FOWLR tank with zero nuisance algae so I don't know what the heck. The only changes I know about are (a) the water volume - old tank was 12g - and (b) the light - old tank had one tiny PC 50/50 bulb, I think it was 11 watts. For now I've reduced the photoperiod down to three hours a day as well as lowered the amount of food the wrasse gets. I've also instituted a "no pictures" policy until it's looking better :) Can't wait until it stabilizes and takes off!

Anyone have an RBTA in there biocube? I've got a 29 and want one but not sure if it will be to big for the tank. Experiences and pics would be appreciated. Thanks.

Picked up a 14G. It's currently cycling and it's only been a few days.

I replaced the 10K bulb with a 12K UV bulb from mediabasket. Also did the basket, Hydor Pico. I'll post pictures later.

Ok yeah I have been using reef crest but I also like the wave motion of short pulse mode.

RedStangGA- How close to the top is yours?

Thanks! I installed an ecoxotic (original) panorama (blue & white) on the front door. The second pic is with the LEDs only, unfortunately it doesn't light up the top back.

Does anyone have the Rapid LED BC-14 kit? I got it all installed but i cant figure out the wiring to make the dimmer work. I have the ELN-60-48P Driver with the DDC-01 PWM Controller. I cant figure out how to connect all the wires properly to get teh dimming function to work. I got it to a point where i can get the lights to light...but the controller wont turn it off or adjust the brightness.

With the 2 screws on the left and the 4 on the right i have it hooked up like this:
Left side has the two wires coming directly from the LED's attached to the shield. Top is Red (+) and bottom is Black (-). The right side connect to the driver. The top right has the Blue and Red wire. the second screw has the black and white. I also tried the Black on the second and the white on #3 but no dice.

Any help would be great so i can get the lights back on my tank!!

Rob

Beautiful tank reefexplorer74! I wish my 29 looked like that but, I have only had it for around 2 months so, I can dream. :)

i have added 2 hydor flow pumps along with a hydor smartwave to alternate them i have frogspawn, nem, and hammers in the tank along with some hards. is this over kill on them or do i just need to position them in a place that they essentially just initiate the flow on my rocks?
