Bio pellets/GFO

I have a question about using GFO while using the biopellets for nitrate and phosphate control.

I have read on the BRS website that GFO is good to run even while using the biopellets, but I'm a little confused isn't the purpose of using the bio pellets to reduce phosphates and nitrates? What gives, are they just trying to sell their merchandise? Please illuminate me with some knowledge before I go and start up a seperate reactor w/ GFO again.

I have been running the biopellets a short time aprox. 2 weeks, I had started it once before in Dececember but stopped it because of clumping. I restarted it with a better pump which tumbles the new pellets really good so lets see how it goes this time.
