I have been wanting to set up a seagrass system for a while now and have been wondering about using a wet/dry filter in order to provide ample nitrate. Any suggestions?
I think we've hit on this before.. its a good idea, definitely worth a shot and if you go through with the process please (please!) keep us posted. The only problem I really see is that you will still have to have a decent bioload to produce ammonia to kick start that whole nitrate factory thing. And.. the more plants and macro you have, the higher the need for nitrate will go. Eventually if you have a lot of plants and either few fish or dont feed a whole lot, you will run out of something. Many cases that will be nitrate.
I still think its a good idea that needs to be attempted by anyone who has the time and resources to give it a whirl.
Well today I started a little project to see the effects of a wet/dry filter on a heavly planted macroalgae system. I will be starting a new thread here in the Marine Plants & Macroalgae section
Make sure to check my other thread, that is where I will be listing any progression. If this works well I am thinking about adding a small yeast-driven CO2 system.
