Biobeads

Just wondering how effective a biobead reactor is at removing phosphates from an aquarium. I have always heard that they are very effective at removing nitrates. Thinking of setting one up. Thanks.

There are some "all in one" biopellets that I have read people are successful at removing po4s with. It sounds like they are plastic and gfo pellets.

Heterotrophic bacteria that the bio-pellets feed, do consume Po4 as well as No3, but only in a 7 to 1 ratio (7 being the No3)

So they will absolutely assist in helping to maintain lower Po4 but will not "drive" Po4 the way they will No3.

So you will still need to use some sort of absorbent for Po4.
