Biocube 29 Lights...freshwater??

I have been doing a ton of research on lights for my Biocube 29. Guy at the LFS told me that I could go with a Current USA Freshwater LED+ because the tank is pretty shallow. He said that Marine Orbit LED would of course be better but the Freshwater version would be just fine for most corals. I don't plan on doing any SPS mostly just softies. I am going to rearrange the hood some and keep both PC 50/50 Corallife lights + the Freshwater LED+. Do you guys think this would be enough?

I'm not sure that would be enough light to stimulate/support growth of coral. If you're keeping the PC lights, you could just add one or two stunner strips for added color. And for just softies, the PC probably would be sufficient. If you think that you might eventually want to get into some of the other coral, it could be a good idea to go ahead and do a rapid LED, Steve's LED, or ecoxotic panorama pro retrofit. That would save you money in the long run, and you're already considering rearranging the hood.

I didn't look into that particular light, so honestly I don't know much about it. But, I think, that at a minimum length of 18in, it probably isn't going to fit into the hood. The ecoxotic panorama pro's are 12 in, and they fit pretty well. I can't imagine that another six would go in there...
Welcome to another local member! Check out our local club at columbiamac.org. Good group of reefers, meetings every month, and the annual frag show will be in sept. It was awesome last year, they had a great turn out!

would the FW LED be in addition to the stock BC lighting? I'm not sure it would have the best spectrum at 6500K for reef but I'm not an expert. That's the one thing I don't like about LEDs, there are so many variables and it's hard to compare apples to apples. Personally, I got rid of the hood on my BC and I have a T5 fixture and a marine LED fixture (nothing fancy). I mostly have softies though so it seems to be ok.
