Biocube 29g led upgrade

Just bought a used 29g biocube that I want to upgraded the lighting. After much soul searching I can not do a rapid led, aqua style, etc build because I'm bothered by my young children with all the wiring. I like the panorama pro modules and 2 of those with the power source runs about $185 and I get to keep my top. Reef breeders has a value led for $199 ( looks like a chineese led d120) and I've seen people cut their hoods to fit that . Finally at this price point I'm thinking of a ai nano or the first generation soul. I want to keep softies, love my lps and birds nest and green sliders. Any and all opinions are welcome

I have two AI Nano Sols from a previous aquarium and I am actually downgrading into a Coralife BioCube. From what I have been told the AI Nano would create too much heat within the hood and it would be best to remove the hood entirely and just use the arm that is provided to hang above the topless aquarium.

I haven't received mine yet but I want to see if I can find a way to mount it within the hood and check the temperatures and upgrade the ventilation if possible to reduce heat issues.

If you do the wiring correctly on the RapidLED kit you shouldnt have to worry about exposed wires or anything. Unless your kids are getting behind your aquarium. Just know that the RapidLED kits do not fit the Coralife version of the BioCube as the mounting of the lights is different. They are working on a Coralife version as we speak from what I am told.

i used to solder all the time when I was younger with my r/c cars but now being a parent I just don't feel comfortable with it. Thanks for letting know about the ai nano's. I'm leaning towards the panorama modules because they allow me to keep the hood pretty stock. Anyone have experience with these?

I have them on my biocube 29. I think they are great. I have two of them. One is the 12k white/blue combo and the other is the straight actinic one. My acans and other corals love it. Have had no problems and am very satisfied with them. My tank still looks stock even though it's not because I fit them into the hood where the old lights were. Hope this helps.

I had a mix of Cree Royal Blues and Cool Whites on my bio cube and thought it looked great and had pretty good growth. RapidLED has a kit specific to fit the hoods of the bio cube. That is what I got.

Not sure I understand this bit. I have two Bio Cube 29's here in our house and I honestly don't see the wire concern. One tank uses Steve's and the other uses Rapids with dimmable Mean Wells. There are no more wires than what the stock hoods use.

In fact, you can use the existing switches to turn on/off the lights if you want and keep the moon lights. Wire ties are your friend as is normal cable management.
