Hello everyone,
I just got my new biocube and am a first time saltwater tank owner. All I have right now is live rock sand and water. I was wondering what to set the light schedule to as I want to build a live reef tank. Thank you for the help.

Hi, and welcome to reefcentral! what kind of lights?

They are just the standard LED lights that came in the biocube. Sorry don't know exactly what they are.

I would leave them on for 10-12 hours full, gives plenty of growing time. I have LEDs and mine are usually on around 8 and off around 8.

I have the same tank, but have upgraded my lights... If you have $300 you can invest, I highly recommend upgrading to a retrofit kit LED system... I went with Steve's LEDs 14k super spectrum and am beyond happy with the results. The stock lights will suffice for softies and most LPS, but the growth isn't so great. You will also deal with a lot of nuisance algae with those lights. I suppose I'm not answering your question, I apologize. I recommend a 12 hour schedule with all channels on for 8-10 hours. Something like this:

Channel 1(daylight): 11am - 9pm
Channel 2(dusk/dawn): 10:30am - 10:30
Channel 3 (moonlight): 10:30am - 12am

Thats the schedule I had my old lights set at and it worked well for me :)

What light control did you get? And if you have the hurricane x what are your settings?
