Biocube filtration

I have a biocube 29 reef with this filtration set up...

chamber 1- aquaticlife 115 skimmer
chamber 2- media basket with purigen and filter floss and chaeto/mangroves
chamber3- heater/return

I want to kinda reform my filtratrion set up. The purigen isn't doing much and the skimmer is mediocre. Im interested in removing the skimmer and media basket and replacing it with a nicer skimmer. any ideas for a nice skimmer that will fit in chamber 2 and still have room for a fuge? Is this a good idea or should i stick with this set up? i kinda want a bigger fuge so...

any biocube owners please let me know what you run... pics are nice too!

I guess i could ditch the huge and do this...

chamber 1- heater
chamber 2- nice skimmer and media basket
chamber 3- return

and have it a more mechanical/chemical filtration type of thing.

I run the aquaticlife in chamber 1. Chamber 2 has media basket with floss, purigen, and chemi-pure elite and a fuge basket with chaeto. Chamber 3 is the green sponge, heater and return pump and sometimes a bag of carbon on top of the sponge. I vodka dose and dose microbacter 7 and my skimmer pulls out DARK green sludge. This setup has taken my nitrates from 80 to 0 and phosphates from 2 to 0. I have to trim my chaeto at least once a week because it grows so thick. My water now is perfect and I still feed a lot. I feed all my coral about every 2-3 days and there's a lot that falls off.

Were running the same set up. i can't get my skimmer to pull anything nasty how did you get green sludge?

I set it at the lowest setting and I vodka dose w/ mb7. The vodka and mb7 is what really makes it pull the nasty stuff out. What are your water params? If they're all 0, then you should be doing just fine and might not be enough for the skimmer to pull out.

Nitrates are at 10. Do you know of any good links for vodka dosing?

I have heard of a CPR drop in that fits perfect in the BC29. I would look in to that. My lfs owner swears by it. I'm currently running the stock oceanic skimmer(about to be retired) and some crushed rock and cheato in the middle of my BC14. I'm upgrading to the hydor slim skim nano for upto 35gal that would slide in the BC14. There is also a hydor proformer series skimmer that is up to 65gal. Im not sure if it will fit in the chamber of a BC29 though.

You can just google vodka dosing and you will find tons of stuff. Type in guide to vodka dosing and you will find a very specific step by step guide on how to do it and what it is you are actually doing when you dose. My params ate perfect right now and water is crystal clear.
