Biocube noise?

I have a 32 Coralife Biocube with the stock fan. I've had it for about three to four months now and I've noticed that the cooking fan(s) has gotten significantly louder. Are there any fixes to this without replacing the entire fan?

Mine is the same, started quiet but has gotten louder and louder. I just ordered a new fan that others on here have recommended:

Scythe SY501012M Mini Kaze 50 mm

I haven't gotten it yet to test it out, but others like it.

Ya the cooling fans that come stock are junk. I use delta fans. Quiet and with dual bearings they last a long time

When I had my biocube, I replaced the stock ones with SilenX fans. They move more air, and are loads quieter.

It's a super easy mod. Just take off the light cover, remove the 2 screws holding the fan inplace, unplug from circuit board. If your new fan isn't a 2 pin plug, just cut off the old plug and wire it up(black to black, red to red). The third wire isn't needed as its just a speed controller based on temp typically used on a PC motherboard.

Any 50mm PC fan will work. Just look for one that moves more air(CFM) with less noise(DBa).

Does anyone know if the Biocube has the 2 pin or 3 pin connector? Fan poseted above is out of stock everywhere and I want to get a different brand.

Its a 2 pin. Any fan will work.

You either cut the third wire(power control for thermal cooling of the motherboard), or you tie it into the red wire. Or better yet(but a little more costly) you buy a 3 pin to 2 pin connector.

Just cut the connector off the current fan, and match up white to white and red to red on the new fan, plug it and your good to go.

Just my own FWIW, SilenX fans move twice the air and at half the noise of the posted fan.

Any particular part number or at least dimensions for the SilenX fan? I need to replace a pair in a 29 gal. Biocube but don't have access to the tank at the moment. Google is saying a 60 mm fan?

I wonder if the bearings go bad or if it goes out of tune.

Vibrations or noise if you want to term it that way, can be dampened. You can reduce the intensity or change the tone so you don't hear it. Sometimes by loosening the mounts, more likely tightening the mounts.

I got a couple of these so the fans would be able to reach the board, and convert 3 pin to 2 pin.

I installed the fan that I showed above. Very easy install - perfect plug-and-play replacement. It is now running and super quiet. So quiet that I had to confirm it was even running! A very easy and cheap upgrade that makes a big difference.
