have gotten some good responses on the Caribbean biotope and after doing alot of pondering on what I really want in the tank.

I want to be able to have a variety of SPS, LPS and so in corals so that eliminates the Caribbean area.

So I have now narrowed it down to 3 Countries that include a fish from my favorite group of Angels and that is the Chaetodontoplus group.

The countries are:

Japan
Taiwan
Papua N Guinea


So I would like some input on which would have the greater availability of corals?
 
Do you mean the greatest availability of coral to purchase or the greatest diversity of coral existing there in nature?
 
Then after making that choice I will move onto a fish list for this area. I would like some input on that as well.

This is for a standard 120gallon, with a 30gallon sump that houses a skimmer rated for 250 gallons and a uv lamp for 500 gallons.
 
Nice list! Do those stores sell corals specifically collected in Japan? The only Japanese corals I've ever heard of so far are those beautiful deepwater zoas that are so popular, but I'm no expert.

The LFS in my area gets a lot of maricultured corals from New Guinea. I have a gorgeous purple turbinaria with yellow polyps and two really nice colonies of orange digitata from a couple of those shipments.

As far as fish lists go, Fishbase has a feature that lets you do a search by country. If you click the links for specific fish profiles, some of them include habitat information. You might could do the Fishbase country search, and then figure out which habitat within that area your angelfish might come from--that should help you decide which corals and other livestock would be appropriate. Another really good resource would be Scott Michael's book on angelfishes--his reef fish books give habitat descriptions for most species accounts.

I love biotope aquariums, so I hope you start a tank build thread when you decide on your stocking list. :)

How would I go about aquiring the corals that these places sell since I live in the US and I also dont read Japanese.

I am wanting what would be the most available to me as a US hobbiest to purchase.

I have all 3 placces list of fish saved on my thumbnails.

I will def start a build thread when I figure it out. I already have the tank running with a Centropyge Flavucada angel in it. I also have other fish that were in my previous tank next door that are being held till I figure out which route I am going.
 
Does anyone have any other input for me.

I do have a Full grown christmas wrasse that I can bring back from the neighbors that is hold some of my fish from the 200gallon tank. What are yalls thoughts on that as in regards to be aggressive to other wrasses introduced after it and about any other fish for that matter?
 
How about an Indo-Pacific biotope? Huge coral and fish selection. There are many options for other biotopes too, like christmas island, fiji, the marquesas, etc...

Ok I have thought about that but am interested in only places where I could include one of the following fish in the Biotope.

Chaetodontoplus melanosoma
Chaetodontoplus septentrionalis
Chaetodontoplus caeruleopunctatus



If that is possible anywhere besides the 3 i have listed please let me know.
