Biting Clown?!

I have a pair of black false percs. They have not yet become sexually mature. They are only about 10 mos. old I think. They have shown signs of pairing(spasming). Recently, whenever I stick my hand in the tank for maintenance, the female attacks and bites me hard until I take my hand out. I had a maroon clown that did this too, but it wasn't as mean. I am wondering if this is just a personality thing or if it means that they are moving further along in the pairing process. Thanks.

I was once told, that it means they really care about their home, they will protect it, and they are healthy. Our female Ocellaris is evil, she will bite me and my husband, she even bites the glass to try to get to us.

i've seen a maroon go crazy in the store to defend its anemone.

in my tank my clowns avoid my hands but my damsel bites me every time

My black oc. female bites me really hard if I go anywhere near her anemone. The male however will just dive into the nem to get away.

Just for kicks...I actually got bitten on the lip 2 weeks ago while diving with my clowns. Generally, they only attack the regulator and my mask (reflective, maybe?)...but this time they were out for blood! Basically, there's a 3 ft sphere around their LTA that they will not let me enter.

um how big is this tank? that sounds so fun.....

Dave,

I'll get some shots ASAP. Soft coral dominated, but punctuated with 2 16" + tabling Hydnophora (flourescent green).

As far as diving...it's not really diving. No BC...and the tank is outside with a long regulator hose...call it a "hookah" setup.

I second the anger management issues. I had one anemone and I bought a different one so I took the first one out and that clown did not want to give it up. I lifted the nem right out of the water until she fell out of it and fell back into the water. I think the nem issue made her more territorial.
