OK got a piece of live rock, upon examination there's something hitchhiking and is living in a hole about the size of a pea... he's irredescent white with very pale blue shimmers when it moves, looks to be about an inch long with very long anttenna that always petrude from the hole these are as thick as a human hair and very mobile, from what i can make out he looks very insect like, almost segmented like with a thorax, he's almost clear, here's the crazy part, every time I shine my bright flashlight into the hole, this critter will pickup a pice of busted coral and holds it perfectly in the hole to block the light, when I turn the light away, he removes the coral and I can see him again. shine light, holds up coral... so strange! and clues??? thanks.

got it!

got it!

ok... it's a pistol shrimp, cool! here's my question now, I removed the piece of LR and put about 1 inch of fresh water (same temp, dechlorinated) and BAM! he swam right out, took a quick picture in a net and right back into reef he went, will he be ok with the FW dip, or did I just severly rock his world?

It should be ok, but change in salinity is not too good for inverts. If hes still alive you will hear some snapping. Maybe not for a few days or even a week or so. Very cool little critters.
