Black and white clown near surface

I bought some full banded black and white clown fish yesterday. They did well the first night but since the lights have been out they both have been extremly near the surface of the water. They swim sideways also sometimes. Ive seen a false perc do this before and it died 2 days later. I DO NOT want that to happen to these guys. What do i need to do!!!

if your six-line was in the tank first, its a good chance he is chasing them to show his dominance. its not unusual for them to hide at the top for a couple of days when fist introduced especially if they feel threatened. ive had one jumper out of probably 4 pairs of clowns that ive ever known. he was about 3/4" long and my six-line (1.5") harassed the crap out of him but not the other one. i would imagine it was a simple case of assisted suicide.

From now on, QUARANTINE. It's cheaper and less emotionally destructive than replacing your fish.

1. Check the regular water parameters
2. Are there any corals (zoas, etc.) that could be releasing toxins in the water? - (this even includes algea if there has been a temperature swing within the last three weeks)
3. Has their color faded at all? - (could indicate possible parasite that has become more apparent due to the fishes' stress)

Clowns sometimes just do this as juvi's until they get comfortable with their tank. I've had mine for about 2 weeks and they still 'sleep' near the top, but swim around lots during the day and at feeding time.
