Black and White clown

Are all black & white clowns Ocellaris or is it possible to get true percula that are black & white. I'm wandering because I have a really nice pair of black & whites that are jet black and beautiful but I'm not really sure what they are.

picture would help. If you are deciphering between ocellaris and percula, look at the eyes. if the eyes have a sharp defined circle, then percula. if not then ocellaris. 99% they are ocellaris. Onyx perculas are the closest to black and white, but they have orange in their fins and on their faces

Ya there is no orange on these fish. They are jet black. I will try to post a pick, but I guess my confusion comes from trying to figure it out for my self online. There seems to be a lot of online venders that are trying to sell black & white perculas. But they all look like mine and I thought mine was an Ocellaris.

Thanks, That is exactly what I thought. Mine look like the fish inside the pot, (minus the eggs unfortunately). I guess its pretty common practice for online fish stores to call this fish something other then a Black Ocellaris.

So that brings up my next question. Are Black Ocellaris just as easy and as fast growing as regular ocellaris clowns?

Exact same clown. Think of it as a different race.

Black and white ocellaris are a color variant of the orange ocellaris clown. Exact same care and pretty much everything. IMO perculas and ocellaris are the same in care, but that is just my experience with them. Well, my female percula killed the male, but that is a different story.

Thanks everyone for your help. I am still new to breeding fish and I was wanting something that was as easy as possible to breed but something a little different then the normal Ocellaris with out breaking the bank. So I am vary happy with my purchase. In addition to the black Ocellaris I have a true perc pair, a young pearl eye clarkii pair, and two pair of cardinals.

So I am hopeful that I can join you guys as breeders in the near future.

i just picked up some black percs from a guy in town who's had a clutch and he raised them up to a few months(i think, about 1 inch long)

No, you picked up some black ocellaris. There are no black percs.

FWIW, the adult care for ocellaris and percula are basically the same, but (at least in my experience) perc babies take quite a bit longer to grow, form stripes and color-up than their ocellaris counterparts.

that they are. my onyx take forever to grow and color up. my Darwins (black and white occy) grew and colored up much faster. plus they got their stripes faster too
