Black and White Ocellaris Clowns Hosting

A few weeks ago I asked in a RC thread what types of anemones your ocellaris clowns are hosting in. My hope was that a few people would say a RBTA even though that is not the natural anemone host for these fish. Right after that I ordered a pair of black and white ocellaris clown babies. McBeck has been keeping them in her 24g nano until my new display was ready.

She had a great idea to get the clowns to host in my RBTA. She had a few small terra cotta flower pots in the nano for the babies to host in. Since the pots look a little like a RBTA, she hoped that the babies would take to the anemone once they came to my tank.

I brought the babies home yesterday. I placed the small flower pot under the anemone. I released the clowns into the tank right next to their flower pot, where they stayed the first half of the day.

By the end of the day the clowns were swimming into the anemone above their pot. This morning I removed the flower pot and the clowns are staying in the anemone.

How often does a plan like this actually work? But Becky's great idea worked just as planned. Now I hope they will stay in the anemone when the frogspawn, xenia and other corals go into the tank.

I wish mine would host in my RBTA. They seem to really keep thinking about it, as they spend alot of time hovering above it. And just a couple days ago I noticed some different behavior in my older clown, it was swimming around with a piece of food hanging out of its mouth. Eventually, it swam over the anemone and would spit out the food, but then the current would catch the food and he'd grab it again...then spit it out again, current would catch it, and so on. Eventually the food kind of broke down too much for him to do anything with. So I'm wondering, was he trying to feed the anemone? I mean, I have yet to see him or the new clown I got from Kathy even touch the anemone yet, but they both keep acting interested...and then this food thing. Felt bad for him, almost turned off all the pumps so that he could get that little piece of food to go where he wanted it to go.

Mine hosts in my RBTA when it wants to. I was suprised, as most oscellaris just host in a corner.

Where'd you get your black and white ones?
The pair were on sale from Dr. Macs Pacificeast Aquaculture. Last time I looked, they were still on sale.
